Just so I am clear, the unofficial stance is Gray practically severed his own spinal cord?

So, if a gun that mysteriously disappears can't be blamed for a violent action...self-severing a spinal cord is the next best option?

Now, the union to the rescue.

I expect that people associated with the police will start dropping dimes on the mayor for this transgression or that, on city council members for this transgression or that. Things may be about to get uglier still in Baltimore.

Wait a minute. You mean this guy didn't break his own neck on purpose? Go figure....

Welcome to the banana republic of Baltimore.  What an irrational travesty.  The mobs are winning  with a wink and a nod from the top and the bottom feeders climbing on board.  If I was a Baltimore cop I would turn my badge in and walk away from that cauldron of ignorance.  The sad thing is the violence will start again when these guys are aquitted, unless their lawyers don't get a change of venue and end up in the kangaroo court system we see personified in the SA.

AKIRA

She way overcharged them, as it benifits her to do.  When it all falls apart, it will be an explosive flashpoint for further violence.

It would be great if the bad cops in Baltimore (and I can assure you there are some) would turn their badge in!

Sounds like the State attorney in my district; Angela Corey.  Hope this one is more ethical and better prepared than the bully in Jacksonville FL

how is it possible that Fox news got that wrong?
You *do* know, of course, that hasn't been determined -- right? I'm sure the police union, in due course, will remind you of your rush to judgment (amazing how we hop to a lynch-mob mentality, when desired) *and* remind you of the rush to judgment by the Officer of the Court who owes these officers a deliberate review of the facts. She clearly has not done that.

Would either of you care to argue with that assertion ? ? ?

And if y'all think it is laughable that Freddie Gray purposely tried to hurt himself, you might want to pull your head out of your four-corner-contact. Many in the criminal element (and Freddie had been arrested damn near 30 times) strive to put themselves in position to collect a check by any means necessary. Are y'all seriously questioning this fact? Have you not been bombarded by John Morgan on television and not connected the fact that X number of people CREATE accidents in this country EVERY DAMN DAY in an attempt just to collect a check?

Seriously?

Three black cops, from what I understand, are among the six charged. You think their families are going to take this sitting down? This rush to judgment perpetrated by this young, inexperienced State's Attorney who is married to the city councilman from Freddie Gray's home district?

She better hope her shit doesn't stink, nor that of her husband. And in Baltimore, that isn't likely.

Admit it, Stephen / Ennis, this is already a clusterfuck. This prosecutor, currently holding down the national position of Secretary of the Democratic National Committee, has allowed herself to be played in the most idiotic way -- including apologizing for calling obvious thugs what they most obviously are, thugs.

To me, it's a national embarrassment for all involved. And I write that knowing full well that these cops (black, white or otherwise) may very well *be* guilty; I've certainly read of these so-called 'nickel rides' that toss around shackled but unbuckled individuals in the back of a van that is being driven very roughly over rough roads.

Still, there's no need to lynch them. There's every need to be deliberate and insist they, too, get the cloak of innocent until proven guilty and that's what I'm doing by remaining open to the possibility that the bwah *did* try and hurt himself. Because I sure as hell know it's not laughable. To the contrary, it's quite possible.

I'll also add this; this is a thoughtful column that should be part of our national discussion going forward in the wake of this case:

http://www.nytimes.com/2015/05/03/opinion/sunday/ross-douthat-our-police-union-problem.html

This isn't some simple, reactionary piece that is anti-union. The accountability that must be required of our police is greatly complicated in these big, urban environments that are decade-after-decade of one-party rule just as much as in rural, small enclaves that also involve decade-after-decade of one-party rule.

This is a complicated situation that doesn't lend itself to good white people vs bad white people (I'm sorry, but that is how I view so much of the Democrat Party approach to our politics these days; Democrats good, Republicans bad) or good cop vs bad cop, etc.

We have work to do, as Americans. So much work to do. But we can't allow navel-gazing to blind us to the reality of this greatest nation on the planet, nor fall prey to making the perfect the enemy of the good.

Second degree murder is going to be next to impossible to prove in this situation and it's essentially kicking the can down the road. I hope the city doesn't get torn up again when the defense attorneys for the officers have a field day with the prosecutor.    Should have charged them all with negligent homicide in my opinion.
