Group 5 will also see a runoff.  On the ballot the last election were these individual and this is the outcome of the votes:

Ju'Coby Pittman  (D)        80,659    46.03%
Sam Newby        (R)        48,967     27.59%
Michelle Tappouni (D)      45,579     26.01%

The race in May will pit Ju'Coby Pittman (D) against Sam Newby (R):  Ju'Coby will need to capture all the votes she had this time around in order to beat (R) Newby if he manages to garner all of the votes first cast for Michelle.  At todays numbers, if the race played out as it did the last time Ju'Coby would be at 46.03% and Newby getting the remaining votes would be at 53.6%.  Here is the rub in this race and a number that really surprised me.  When the voters turned out the last election cycle there were a whopping 10,181 voters who did not vote in this race.  Clearly a good number of people were not reached during the last election cycle.  The person who can pull in these votes may end up winning the race.  I expect this race to be a tight one.

Diane, your analysis of these races is really interesting.  Thank you for the work you are putting into this.  You don't have to, but it's very informative.

Thanks Scarlettjax.  I really want to do all that I can to interest and engage people in the political process and to understand how who they put in political office impacts their lives one way or another.  The best thing for our city is to have more people voting, but also to understand that the people voting need to be as independent in their thinking as possible and research the candidates asking for their votes.  If I can make that easier I will do my best to help the process as long as folks seem interested in knowing.  :)
