I am shocked that Metro Jacksonville isn't madly in love with this idea. Your stories are always imploring government to do this or do that and so you are the biggest boosters I can see for Big Government. This project is Big Government at its best. Right up there with sports teams paid for by the taxpayers. Neither will benefit taxpayers at all, despite all the hoopla, smoke and mirrors.  Then there was The Landing, which has largely fizzled. The bottom line is that if there is really long-term profit in something, the private sector will step up with the money. If not, they will come begging to government for your tax dollars. So stop whining.

Can you link to some of the stories that "boost" for "big government"? Really curious as to what I've been missing.

That was a good one, guys. I started to wonder if this "Not-Ferris Wheel" would eventually collapse into the river like portions of the parking area, because creating a foundation for this thing, though highly recommended, was eliminated from its budget. The reason being that the only company capable of building adequate foundations isn't from Jacksonville. When the inevitable collapse happens, all wouldn't be lost, we could create a tourist attraction called "Disaster Land". The cost for its maintenance would be minimal. The profits received from this attraction would be more than adequate to fund a reworked police, fire and city employee's pension fund which would offer even less to its lower level retirees. Solutions to many or our city's problems can be had with a little creative thinking, don't you think?

Jaxboy, I think you are on to something.

There is a subtle beauty to abandoned amusement parks...as long as you look at them through the righ photographic filter.
