CSX announces $2.5 Billion capital plan for 2015

CSX touts $2.5 billion 2015 capital spending plan



JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – CSX Transportation will invest about $2.5 billion across its 21,000-mile network this year. The railroad's 2015 capital improvement plan highlights several projects, including:

    The deployment of about 3 million tons of ballast.
    The replacement of about 3.2 million crossties.
    500 miles of rail replacement, while resurfacing an additional 5,300 miles.
    Repairs to about 200 bridges.
    The purchase and delivery of 200 General Electric ES44AH locomotives.
    Rebuilding about 95 locomotives.
    Rebuilding or purchasing about 3,300 railcars.
    The purchase of 1,000 new containers.
    425 new miles of double-stack clearances.
    $105 million in Technology enhancements.


The railroad will also launch several capacity projects to increase efficiency throughout its key corridors. In Buffalo, the railroad will reopen its locomotive service facility. In Pittsburgh, construction will begin on an intermodal facility as part of the railroad's National Gateway Project.

Additionally, preliminary construction is expected to begin on the Virginia Avenue Tunnel in Washington D.C.
