QuoteJacksonville is the No. 1 city for Hispanics economically, according to a study by Forbes.
The study, which looked at 52 of the largest metro areas in the U.S., judged cities by homeownership, entrepreneurship and the median household income for Hispanics.
Jacksonville came out on top, with a $50,171 median income and a home ownership rate of 54.9 percent. Entrepreneurship, which is measured through self-employment among Hispanics, is also high, at 17.1 percent.
Hispanics' economic success has run parallel with an enormous population growth of 148.2 percent between 2000 and 2013.
For Hispanics, who experienced significant loss during the recession, these gains are important.
Hispanics experienced a 44 percent drop in household wealth during the recession; in comparison, African-Americans saw a 31 percent drop and whites saw an 11 percent drop.
Their job gain has also, however, been significant in the postrecession years, occupying 2.3 million more jobs between 2009 and 2013.
Jacksonville was followed by Riverside-San Bernardino in California and Baltimore, which were the No. 2 and No. 3 cities for Hispanic economic well-being.
Other Florida cities that made the cut were Tampa-St. Petersburg at No. 12 and Orlando and Miami at No. 13 and No. 16.
