For those of you who are interested or who live in Riverside, Sun-Ray has dug deep into its archives to unleash a film hosted by former Mayor, Hans Tanzler. Of, By and For the People, an incredible look at consolidation in 1971. This 16mm film will be the catalyst/starter for a discussion between me and Jim Love. We will be discussing a bit about why we are running and where we see Jacksonville heading. This conversation will be moderated by John Citrone. It will take place on Wednesday March 4th at 6:30 and it will be free.
It's time to move past being a city with potential, and become a city living up to it's potential.

I hear this went very, very well.

Much better than being in Austin with a "wintry mix" in the forecast.  WTH even is that?

Jtetlak

Thanks Jimmy. It went pretty well, we had about 80 people there. Sorry you weren't able to make it.

Anyone know who the media presence there was? I think there was a Times-Union reporter there but don't remember her name.

QuoteHe's a few weeks from reelection now (Love), barring some bizarre occurrence. Jacksonville politics is a compromise game, one in which successful politicians generally have to build sustainable coalitions across demographic boundaries to win.

This is a game that Jim Love understands instinctively, and that Jason Tetlak has yet to learn.

No doubt, Tetlak took a hard hit last night losing the Democrat endorsement and going with Bishop on his firm HRO support. Accordingly, Love said all the slick things. Indeed, as AG pointed out, the $300 million dredge project, thats from local pockets only in Loves own words, means Jobs Jobs Jobs! Missing from AGs article was Tetlaks response," What if business DOESNT come to the BILLION Dollar dredge? Who gets stuck with that? (Us, the taxpayers). Tetlak then pointed out how Jax isnt the only port on the East coast. And Love said," Oh but Miami is too far south!" Its up to the audience to figure that out.
I questioned Love on raising the property taxes on Jacksonville property owners. Many who have negative equity mortgage. And in the middle of the GREAT RECESSION! Against the Mayors proposed no tax increase budget. And, to sum up a very, very, long story, Love said raising those/our taxes was him doing us a big favor. To keep us safe and sound. And maintain government expenses. Yeah, off our backs. Whos the real conservative?
Its to be pointed out that Tetlak sees the St Johns River as our most valuable asset. He sees it as a recreational treasure to be enjoyed by Riverside residents and visitors both. So does Jim Love. They differ where Love wants to dredge it for the largest ships to roll up and down at will. And the implication that those JOBS are first. And Riverside residents come next. Again, if those "ships" even come at all! And, make no mistake, with Love ect in charge, plan on all taxes going UP!

Glad to meet you tonight Jason.  You are such a good guy and I am glad you decided to run in this race.  You should be proud for following your heart and mind and getting into the local political action.  Proud of you man!

Jason Tetlak may have a great future ahead of him in local politics, but the issue, as pointed out in a race that he lost 68 to 32% was that he was relatively unknown. The misconception of Jim Love being against the HRO was a popular lie spread by democrats, when in fact Love was praised and selected as a candidate for change and won great support in the neighborhood for his polices in favor of the HRO. The equality group said so at Jim's campaign victory party this evening.

Jim collected victories in 14 of the 15 districts. This speaks to the value of running a race and campaign that speaks to the entire district, not just a few that may be located closest to a topic or something worth fighting for. I wish Jason the best of luck in the future and I hope he learns from this race and looks to win in his next race.
