^ and this year's request from Sleiman was $12 million for infrastructure improvements as well as other incentives...many believe a re-imagined Landing will be more impactful to downtown's success (and Jacksonville as a whole) than the Laura Trio and Barnett projects.

COJ has to find a way to get multiple projects done.

In all honesty, $8 million in public financing for what has been proposed? Four of the most historic buildings being revived? That is $2 million a piece? My friends, the amount I see in property taxes increasing DT is worth it alone and we are talking about HISTORY with mixed use public access, not just giving money to build a brand new condo.

The same could be said for Berkman 2.  DIA turned down a $5M request by the developer to complete the project.  What would a highrise full of young people do to the core, the elbow, and the growth of the tax base?  As it is, DIA continues to play small ball with tiny grants to highly dubious start ups.  Clearly, we need more taxes, more spending, a committed City Council, and a Mayor who cares more about downtown development than his next election and next career in Hillary's cabinet.

To be fair, ultimately the DIA's pot of money is only so big. To pull these projects off, more money will be needed from COJ's budget as a whole.

Don't hold your breath waiting for DT project money from COJ when they're turning over every rock looking for the money to fund infrastructure maintenance.

No doubt.  DIA has never been adequately funded.  It's just a little lipstick on the pig.  And COJ is paying lip service only.  Instead of waiting for Shad to bail out downtown, why isn't leadership actively courting him for a public/private partnership?
