Fox News ratings grew more in 2014

Per Western Journalism:

As Western Journalism reported earlier this month, satellite television provider Dish Network dropped both Fox News Channel and Fox Business Network from its lineup in a contract renewal disagreement over carriage fees.

That set off an acrimonious war of words between Fox News executives and officials of Dish, whose chief has accused Fox of "extortion."

But in the war of cable ratings, the just-announced victory by Fox News may soon have Dish eating a heaping helping of crow off its wobbly programming plate.

Deadline Hollywood reports that in 2014, Fox News Channel was the most watched cable news network for the 13th straight year, clobbering both CNN and MSNBC:

CNN will close out 2014 with some all-time ratings lows. In primetime, the network has delivered its worst-rated year in total viewers and its second-lowest in the news demo.

On the bright side, it will wrap 2014 ahead of MSNBC in the news demo; through December 22, MSNBC lost 17% of its primetime news demo viewers, clocking a worst-since-2005 169,000 of them.
Not only has Fox News left its direct cable competitors in the dust, the channel has also finished 2014 high in the rankings of all cable networks, not just news providers:

FNC rings out the year ranked No. 4 among ad-supported basic cable networks in overall primetime audience, behind only ESPN, USA Network and TNT; it also ranks No. 4 in total. CNN and MSNBC are way back in the 20s and 30s.
In a new analysis of the Fox-Dish feud, mediaite.com points out that FNC appears to be in a very strong position to win the war and regain its place on the Dish lineup, especially in light of the channel's ratings dominance and the fierce loyalty of its millions of fans.

Fox's fan base has besieged Dish with calls and emails since the channel went dark.

By Fox's tally, about 180,000 complaint calls have been registered with the toll-free line Fox established for the Dish fight. At last count, 140,000-plus emails have been sent as well.
During the dispute — to which neither side is currently forecasting an end — Dish is ironically carrying Glenn Beck's channel "The Blaze" in place of Fox News. Beck launched "The Blaze" after he left FNC in 2011.

I don't know how anyone can watch Fox, CNN, or worst of all, msnbc and think they're getting a legitimate news story. These networks don't even try to hide their bias anymore. 99% of their programming is opinion of some talking head (wolf, Bill, Rachel, etc).
Do yourself a favor, cancel your cable and follow the AP on Twitter. At least they still try.
Jags season ticket holder.

:o  I do not consider westernjournalism.com a news source. If that is where you are getting your news from, then you are mostly being fed and consuming propaganda. I would agree that the AP still does a good job of actually reporting news. NPR also does a lot of investigative reporting on Morning Edition and All Things Considered. As far as TV news goes, I mostly watch Al Jazeera America. They still do investigative journalism and their news is not "entertainment." Best of all, there are no self-serving talking heads!

Fox News know it's audience. Alot of bitter retirees sitting at home watching hours and hours of that garbage.

I dont. It was just one of many trumpeting the gains made by Fox on cable.

Whose propaganda? Westernjournalism.com or Fox News?

I hardly ever, never accessed  FOX,until the recent past, certain subject matters FOX clearly has commandeered, corresponding with revulsion to MSNBC Reverend, Rachel Wonderful....mostly.......just a couple of swerves to FOX channel.........a couple of hooks......really upset my wife.

Poof!Mutual aversion to Reverend outweighed- No more Fox, no more direct TV Satellite, $110 per month for only six preferred channels....fast backward; cancelled service local signals only ( mostly trash too),WJCT. Like fifteen years ago+,when we both bragged our bookshelves were larger than our TV.

Both FOX & MSNBC Out.

We could easily regain viewing through so many different avenues however we are enjoying Reprieve.

Even keep MJ views to a minimum.

Well bad news for you, Al Jazeera America will bite the dust in April, 30 2016. IMO AJAM had a pro Arab/very criticising US slant that didn't resonate with many Americans. Here's a little WatchMojo.com (which in itself can be annoying and biased) piece on the 10 reasons why AJAM will be no more.

Here's my break down of some of these news outlets and their political stances.

Fox News- Leans right, but often being polarizing when bringing in differing opinions from the left for debate; political activists, rappers etc.

CNN- Leans more to the left, but often bringing in conservative guests for some polarization. They are pretty 'generic'.

MSNBC- Leans extremely left with virtually no polarization; Yeah they have Joe Scarborough on way early in the morn, but lets get real here....

HLN- Basically a CNN facsimile.

VICE Media- Leans left, but has many good documentaries concerning global affairs.

Current TV (tanked)- Extremely left leaning, although having some decent documentaries. The on air radio shows were abysmal.

Al Jazeera America (will tank in April)- Basically Current TV with a pro Arab stance; They are often very critical to the US.

Al Jazeera and investigative journalism?

How about that hard hitting story on Peyton Manning and PED's?

Total crock.

It was a ratings hail mary and they got intercepted.

Belong on the same journalistic rock heap with Rolling Stone.
