Jacksonville seeks to be considered in Mercedes headquarters move

Atlanta, Charlotte and New Jersey have been mentioned as potential locations for Mercedes.

With rumors swirling regarding the relocation of the new Mercedes Benz North American headquarters, Jacksonville seeks to get in the game.

Aaron Bowman, senior vice president of business development for JaxUSA partnership, a branch of Jax Chamber, told the Business Journal that Jacksonville would work hard to be in the running.

"We would love to be in consideration," he said. "We will try to reach out to make any contact. I can neither confirm or deny anything, but we would love to have Mercedes here. When stuff looks like an opportunity, we do what we can do get involved in any consideration."

Pretty cool to be considered in the same running as the big dogs; Charlotte and Atlanta. Jacksonville makes a lot of sense though, with the port doing so much in the auto industry.

Oh that's good to know. Too bad we couldn't take advantage of the early opportunity but it would've been very tough to lock it up.

Mercedes-Benz to announce HQ relo to Atlanta today. Looks like they'll be getting $40-$50 million in incentives. The move from New Jersey will result in 1,000 new jobs in Atlanta.

Mercedes is headed to the ATL. It plans to invest $100 million in Atlanta. It's there largest economic development coup since landing UPS in 1991.
