not impressed. Disney will never be able to top the Prequel Trilogy...new star wars are just cash in movies.

Which is exactly what a lot of original trilogy people said when the prequels were announced. Lucas & 20thCF are just "cashing in". In fact he even admitted they released the Special Edition because he "needed cash to start the next set". So your remarks are not unusual and says a lot about how old you were when the prequels came out.

TIME Magazine reported in 1983 that the trilogy would probably encompass 9 films in total. That if time and money were not an obstacle he would "go back" before he would "come forward".

Since he started LFL, George has married, divorced, remarried, adopted several kids, made other movies, nearly went bankrupt (making "Empire"). He is 70 years old now and has decided to semi-retire and let the next generation deal with the Hollywood politics, who can blame him?

Carrie Fisher had breakfast with George periodically and she said he was trying to wind up the final 3 parts long before LFL was sold to Disney.  So while it can be claimed that these films are the "cash out" releases, in reality, he sold it to Disney because #1. He was tired of the Hollywood politics #2. They have a history of nurturing titles (ie: Marvel) #3. They had the cash #4. They are the best at cross marketing #4. They are super aggressive in protecting IP. All things George wanted in LFL.

But no one is blind that Disney wants to get a return on their investment. If any films are going to be considered the "cash out" films, its the  Star Wars spin offs (2 of them already greenlighted) that have nothing to do with the Skywalker story arc.

That my friend is where you are going to see the milk flowing on behalf of Disney shareholders.

More milk anyone? Disney's pouring!

QuoteThe big tease of what Disney has planned for "Star Wars" inside its theme parks continues 11 months before "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" flies into theaters.

Disney chief Bob Iger told Wall Street analysts that there's "a fair amount of design and development (taking place by the company's Imagineers) to greatly increase 'Star Wars" presence in multiple locations around the world," shortly after the Mouse House announced another strong financial quarter. "The plans are ambitious, so it's going to take some time for them to be built and opened."

While Iger said specific plans would be announced "later in 2015," the executive already had announced "significant" plans for the franchise for which it paid George Lucas $4 billion in 2012. He also has said whatever new attractions are announced, they will be based on future films in the series, as well as its spinoffs. Several Disney parks currently include an updated version of the "Star Tours" attraction.

In a separate interview with Bloomberg Television, Iger said, "Fairly soon, I'm sure we'll be ready to go public with some specifics. But it's safe to say that you'll see a lot more 'Star Wars' at Disney and at Disney parks in the near future."

Disney knows there's anticipation for all-things "Star Wars."

A teaser trailer released for J.J. Abrams' "The Force Awakens" has been viewed more than 123 million times since November, Iger said on Tuesday.

Like I said, I guess it's working for them so why not continue?

Did... did someone up there really say they would never be able to top the prequel trilogy?

It was just after high school. Friends and I had seen the trailers and were kind of nervous. We saw "The Phantom Menace" and halfway thru were looking at each other like "...There are TWO MORE of these coming?"

The new one at least has that gritty feel of the original Star Wars, and so far none of the dialogue has been nearly as cringeworthy as any given scene from The Phantom Menace. So it has that going for it. And Disney absolutely knows how to market something, once they decide it's worth marketing (see John Carter or The Lone Ranger).

Lol, I assumed that was a mistake for "Original Trilogy".

Do you believe that when the blue jay or another bird sings and the body is trembling, that is a signal that people are coming or something important is about to happen?

New record set in pre-opening ticket sales.

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/star-wars-force-awakens-scores-833360

Numbers continue to roll in for the record-breaking advance ticket sales for the phenomenon that is Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Presales for the Disney and Lucasfilm project broke every IMAX record, generating more than $6.5 million in domestic ticket sales from moviegoers purchasing tickets to see the film which will open on approximately 390 IMAX screens in North America. By comparison, Imax has never previously registered more than $1 million in pre-sales on a single day. In most locations, Imax theaters were selling tickets for the first four days of the movie's run, ensuring that many more seats are yet to become available.

"The only words to describe the first day of IMAX worldwide advance ticket sales for Star Wars: The Force Awakens are 'record-shattering' ," said Greg Foster, CEO of IMAX Entertainment. "We're seeing sell-outs across the board — from Hollywood to London, to Sparks, Nevada, and everywhere in between."

He adds: "The fan reaction to the latest trailer and demand for this film in IMAX is unprecedented and we couldn't be more excited to be a part of this phenomenon and share it with our partners at Disney, Lucasfilm, J.J. Abrams and the entire filmmaking team."

When tickets went on sale Monday after the trailer debuted during Monday Night Football, demand was so high that several sites, including IMAX, Fandango and Movietickets.com, suffered outages under the pressure.

Still, Fandango has already confirmed a new record in pre-sales, selling eight times as many tickets as it did on the first day of sales for the previous record holder, the first Hunger Games film. AMC also has reported sales for The Force Awakens beat the previous record holder by more than 10 fold (IMAX ticket sales accounted for approximately 38 percent of AMC's ticket sales gross), and the theater chain sold out more than 1,000 shows nationwide.

Force Awakens also has set a new record for MovieTickets.com, with Monday-night sales coming in three times higher than at any point in the company's 15-year history. And sales for the movie are already four times greater than advance sales for the last title in the franchise, Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, during the same time period. Overall, tickets for Abrams' film represents 95 percent of all tickets sold on MovieTickets.com

I went and saw "Goosebumps" today and I get displayed with 2 hilarious commercials in the pre-show ads. Both all about Star Wars.

I think these commercials show two things.

- The use of social media (YouTube) to share a reaction is a trend

- How cross generational Star Wars Trilogy has truly become

In 1977, we wanted to get away from Vietnam/Watergate/Oil shocks

In 2015, we want to get away from Middle East Wars/Politics/Financial shocks

I would say this movie is coming at the right time, with the right people, for all the generations

Enjoy the commercials.
