The commandeering of parks in our town

So it's interesting how one group can decide that they want exclusive use and rights to a public space that's bought and paid for by all of us taxpayers. Ed Austin Park was once a wonderfully open area that people could enjoy many activities. But a single group has managed to claim exclusive rights to much of the area with claims that people walking on the fields are destroying them. With backing from the city ( clearly who you know not what you know ) they have managed to have ugly 8 foot high fences installed around the fields. I could understand if people were driving cars on them or dirt bikes but in all the times that I have been there I have never seen a single car track. I used to go there with friends who used to take their dogs to walk the park, throw frisbys or fly electric rc planes. And apparently it was not enough to have the ugly barriers now those spaces have been locked! WOW how does one user group control so much power that they can do that? Did they pay for the fence? Do they pay for its up keep? Do they pay for the maintaince of the fields? Or is that still the responsibility of the rest of our tax paying community?
