Okay, maybe its flashie-backies, but I have been racking the old brain to try and finger "Why Jacksonville"!
Why would Lake leave the beauty of the rolling hills and crystal waters of Central Florida to fight a war in this twisted urban giant? Why would Stephendare, with "Hollywood Artist" stamped all over him, land in Springfield and try and remake it into a piece of the Golden City by the Bay? JBM? Oh you too, why oh why would someone leave Transit wonderland and history of the City of Brotherly Love for this boiling pot in the sun? Me? The dummy that left a top of the world social status in the garden of eden for THIS? That's easy, I'm just an old Hippie that can't resist one more LOUD protest...

But why?

Watching reruns of "The Dukes of Hazard" the answer hit me like a bolt out of the blue. My GOD! WE'RE ALL DUKES! Just look around us. There was the crooked Sheriff Roscoe P. Coltrane and his bumbling deputy, enforcing laws and codes that didn't exisit. Worse, old Boss Hogg, had his fingers in ever cookie jar in the County...(sound like anyone we know?). Why did the Dukes risk arrest or the Georgia Chain Gang to stay in Hazzard County? It was the love of the fight, a little good old Southern Hell Raising, guarding the family farm and reputation, and the virtue of Little Daisy. A recent university study of Southrons (yes that IS a word) had a statement I found interesting... "SOUTHRON, a man or woman unlikely to ever count the odds before entering into a battle" or the comic, when a Southerner yells, "Hey y'all watch this..." get out of his/her way as it is probably their last words. Then it hit me, we're all DUKES!

Yeah, Stephendare, I figured that much out, but it will take a few more glasses of Soco or some VA designer drugs to get to the point of "WHY JACKSONVILLE" of all places. What the hell is it about this place, with all of it's faults, that draws some of us back again and again...Why not Mobile? Brunswick? Tampa? Birmingham? WHY? What is it about THIS PLACE? Maybe it's the center of the "Jacksonville Triangle?" or the site of "Atlantis"? Yeah maybe I just need some Belladonna, Heavenly Blues, or go smoke a PURPLE crayola...
