I have some free time on my hands and want to get more involved with the Jacksonville community and would love to volunteer for anything taking place downtown or in the downtown adjacent neighborhoods (Springfield, Riverside, San Marco, etc... but I am have a hard time finding places to volunteer at.  Specifically I would like to find something related to Better Block, World Park(ing) Day, cleaning up parks and creeks, as well as events that draw people downtown.  I was able to assist with the Strut Your Mutt event and want to do more.  If you know anyone/group who could use an extra hand (I don't mind physical labor) post their contact info.

Check out
Preservation SOS https://www.facebook.com/preservation.sos?fref=ts = They do a lot in Springfield as far as volunteering goes.

Annie Lytle Preservation Group https://www.facebook.com/groups/annielytlepreservation/?fref=ts = They work over on the border of riverside and Brookly area. They primarily work cleaning and maintaining the old public school there.

Friends of Hemming Park http://www.hemmingpark.org/#vision = New group and I have little information other than they were asking for people to sign up to volunteer.

I am not too sure if they are still doing it or not, but there was a cleanup effort going on at McCoy creek and I believe Hogans creek has an annual one just not sure when that is.
Another source you could try is contact Downtown vision and see if there is anything else going on.

The McCoys Creek Cleanup is still going on, it's through the Riverkeeper's Young Professionals group called Rising Tides and is part of International Coastal Cleanup. Here's a link to the event info, it's happening this Saturday:

It's time to move past being a city with potential, and become a city living up to it's potential.
