Great move! Bring the party to street level.

Quote• Attendance at the Make a Scene Downtown “Raise the Rooftop” party Thursday at the Water Street Parking garage doubled compared to the inaugural event the previous week. There were more than 400 people up on the roof for round two. Based on the large increase in participation, after one more date on the roof Thursday the City’s Officer of Special Events is moving the Thursday after-work party with live music and food and drink to Hemming Plaza effective June 5.

Finally, some brains.  Hemming Plaza is a much better location

Great decision.  I'm glad to hear that its gaining in participants.  After they move it to Hemming I would hope it stays there.  Constantly moving around an event like that will surely hurt it more than help.

i was there last thursday and I definitely recommend it if it stays around.  What I liked the most was the breeze that was constantly blowing it actually felt cool for a balmy 85 deg evening.  The dollar beers were also nice too.

Whats funny is the garage deck plays tricks with you because it shifts a wee bit with the people dancing and it feels like your more buzzed than you actually are :)

do they have reggae every week or do they switch it up? I'd love to see some local bands showcased out there. and why does it end at 8,  it seems a little early

We went last night. There were not many people there (we left at 7PM), there was hardly any tables/chairs, that $1 beer was (ugh) Bud light, the $5 dollar margaritas were the worst thing I have drank since college, and the watered down liquor drinks were overpriced too. Seemed like most people were in suits and having happy hour conversations with their co-workers, I only saw a total of four Springfielders there <sigh>. On a good note, the breeze was nice and so was the band, and it was not reggae. I might go check out the Hemming Plaza version, but must admit a little disappointed. On a side note there was a biker rally at the Landing and THAT was pretty cool, walking around looking at all the cool bikes…

I give the city a for effort, but you're right it's alot of co-workers and downtown employees hanging out. I've been to all 3 and that's pretty much the general jist of it. At the first two however, someone threw down a couple hundred bucks and said "give out free beer" so of course, that was enjoyable. Infact I thought it was part of a larger scheme to get us buzzed, then unleash us upon downtown @ 8pm so we spend money on more drinks and food at the local establishments. If that was the case, turns out it worked! the first two times I hit up 331, BG and london bridge and pearl right afterwards. (places i dont venture to as often since moving from downtown to riverside)

With all that said, it's probably a smart move to relocate to Hemming plaza. The view's nice from the top of the parking garage, but the concrete jungle fails to create a festive atmosphere.
