Lenny Curry, who is challenging Mayor Alvin Brown's re-election bid next year, raised just under $200,000 in July, bringing his two-month total since announcing his candidacy to more than $758,803.

The political action committee supporting Curry, Together for a Greater Jacksonville, raised $112,500, Curry campaign officials told the Times-Union on Monday. His campaign directly raised $86,303.

Brown's political action committee, Taking Jacksonville to the Next Level, posted $90,000 this month. Filings for his direct campaign contributions were not posted Monday morning.

City Councilman Bill Bishop, a Republican candidate who has raised $37,050 to date, also had not posted updated figures.

Curry made a splash last month when his committee and campaign filings reported more than $560,000 raised in the first 27 days of his campaign, signaling that at least two well-financed candidates will battle it out next year. To date, Brown has raised more than $1.4 million.

Brown and Curry have received significant financial support from different groups downtown business executives, and both are expected to raise big numbers in what is likely to be an expensive mayoral campaign.
