Jacksonville needs....

Now I have had the opportunity to not only travel the majority of the united states, but a good chunk of the world. As for the United States I know that each state in it's own right is very unique from every other state. I have seen different scenarios and I have gathered different ideas form different regions. The one place I absolutely loved... Santa Monica and Venice Beach, California. I loved the vibrant boardwalks full of street vendors, beach access, restaurants, museums and a pier with an amusement park on it. I know that back in the 60's and 70's Jacksonville Beach had that very structure in place. I just think it would add a great deal of character to the Jacksonville area. I mean Adventure Landing is kind of cool, but Adventure Landing on a pier surrounded by restaurants, bars, vendors and ect. would be phenomenal to say the least. I am under the impression they have began building up the beach area again, but i just think it's missing that one thing that makes people awe at it's shear presence as a standout of the beach.

Jacksonville Beach has come a LONG way in the past 10 years. The intersection of Beach and 3rd street used to be a dump and this was the gateway to Jax Beach. Credit the City of Jax Beach to improve 3rd street and its appearance. Its not perfect, but now when tourists go up and down 3rd street, it has nice clean lines that look well maintained all year long.

Jax used to have a boardwalk, but it was destroyed by Dora and then years of neglect at the beach. Besides, the land gets more and more valuable, so why add a boardwalk, when condos and tax revenue do more for the beaches. The bandshell area is about as close to a ferris wheel Jax Beach will ever get.

Jacksonville needs to open the River. Especially Downtown.

I completely forgot about Dora. good points. and yes they are really doing a lot down there. I like the idea of the whole street in front off the beach being as lively as it is.

Wow. I wasn't aware that there was that much going on down at the beaches. I go there almost everyday and haven't even seen half of those projects. I will keep an eye out for the updates. Thanks again.

We just got back from Pennsylvania (northeast), Baltimore, and Virginia. We were on our honeymoon in several small towns for a week. Baltimore, in particular,  the Hampton neighborhood, was amazing. Local kitschy restaurants, alternative bookstores, vinyl shops, and a bustling community park with a huge flea market for the day.
I am a native to jacksonville and I need this. I need more than this fishbowl city has had to offer for the last 30 years. We're currently looking for a home up north because this city is not moving forward fast enough and there are so many negatives.
