JBJ: Adecco Group Moves North America HQ to Jax

Adecco announced today they are moving their HQ for US to te Southside bringing 185 new jobs. This is great news for Jax, a global company moving from Melville, New York. My only qualm is with the "incentives" Mayor Brown might provide. Being that those positions make an average $15-24k more on Long Island (the COL and pay is actually higher than the city for most businesses) than when they are in Jax - isn't that incentive enough? I think the Mayor should be trying to limit such incentives to the core for right now.

It would have been even better if they never left the Modis building....that was a short-term killer, until Wells Fargo shifted its employees there

Mayor Brown could care less, he got a camera on himself and allowed him to discuss all that he has done for the city and stump as to why he should be re-elected. But what has he really done the last few years? Shift responsibility, bring in cronies from DC and now he has paid to bring in 185 jobs. WOW, A new Nordstroms Store would hire that many alone and cost the city nothing!

From what I can tell, most of these incentives go into the cost of creating the needed space, not into salaried paychecks. Those kind of incentives are beneficial because they hire locals to do the space renovations.

What I don't like is them petitioning for incentives and consolidating staff only to have the company layoff 10-15% post incentive.

Looks like Adecco is locating corporate offices Downtown. Wonder if they will get naming rights to the building?

^ that would be an interesting flip-flop....Modis (Addecco) used to be on the northbank tower and Wachovia (now Wells Fargo) used to be on the southbank tower.

I doubt two floors would get naming...I'm pretty sure Rogers Towers has more than that in the building.

Naming rights can be bought, though.  Totally up to the landlord...Typically law firms never ever buy naming rights.  Imagine a tower named the Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom Tower.  Or the Rogers Towers Tower.

The latest deal where I am that included naming rights was a 714,000 SF lease in a 1.36 million SF tower being built right now.  They were the first to sign, nabbed the bottom 30 floors at really a below market rent, and will receive naming rights.  Their signage will go up 100 ft above street level (the building is over 1,000 ft tall) because the city and developers and everyone in general hates rooftop signage (it's regarded as tacky).

This seems oddly common in the DC area, though.  And I am pretty sure McGuire Woods has its name on a tower in downtown Richmond.

You could be right, but I have not personally seen a lot of names on buildings in DC, including law firms (even though big law firms are HQ'd throughout DC and Richmond).  Most of the buildings there go by address (i.e. 55 Massachusetts Ave, 55 Pennsylvania Ave, 55 K St).  At least that's what I saw from a distance doing some work there and jumping on acq calls and hearing DC teams discuss buildings/market.

I had to Google McGuire Woods' offices in Richmond to see what you're referring to - didn't read the article, but they are anchoring the city's newest building and have explicitly stated they will not put their name on top:

Cities that are big enough have prominent streets that provide fancy addresses that everyone wants to have.  It has more street cred, generally, to say you're in 555 Cal in SF or 1180 Peachtree in Atlanta than The X Building, etc.  There are exceptions - banks, corporate HQs, large owner-users that are generally corporate HQs, telecom buildings, etc.
