Man, those pesky food trucks.

Maybe McDonald's needs some type of legislation to protect their turf? Or better yet, force Five Guys to have to invest in larger menu offerings, restaurants with drive through lanes and more surface parking. That will at least level the investment in facilities.

NEW YORK | McDonald's is fighting to hold onto customers amid intensifying competition.

On Monday, the world's biggest hamburger chain said an important sales figure fell again in the U.S. The company blamed bad winter weather in part, but also conceded that "challenging industry dynamics" played a role.

At a time when chains like Chipotle and smaller players like Five Guys Burgers and Fries are growing, here are a few strategies McDonald's Corp. is focusing on:
