I left Jacksonville and moved to Detroit temporarily last year for work.  The Foxy Lady had just shown up downtown and I immediately thought it would never last but was a pretty good idea.  Anyone know how they are doing??

How do you like living in Detroit?  How does living there compare with living in Jacksonville?

Experiencing Detroit for the past 9 months has been interesting.  It has a lot of similarities to Jacksonville and many differences obviously.  A lot like Jacksonville, I feel that Detroit doesn't properly utilize its water front property on the Detroit river.  The skyline is beautiful with Windsor Canada being Detroit's "south bank" but there is nothing to do along the water front in the summer when you dock your boat; just like when docking at the Landing.

The blight in Detroit is unbelievable and you actually wouldn't believe it even if you saw it.  The challenges facing this city are unprecedented for sure.  The heart of downtown is a beautiful place and they are doing a lot to move it moving in the right direction (which you noted in your story here a while back about Detroit).  The two men leading the charge of re-energizing downtown are billionaires Dan Gilbert and Mike Illitch and they truly have a passion for this city.  The cool thing is that the city recognizes the positive impact these men have and they help them get things done.  I seriously hope Jacksonville can see that with Shad Khan and the city lets him have a similar impact there.  Living here has opened my eyes to the very opposite directions a city can take; it also makes me realize the very crucial juncture that Downtown Jacksonville is in.  A vibrant downtown is important and it should be to the citizens.

To poke a little fun...The "people mover" here in Detroit is equally as bad as the skyway to nowhere in Jacksonville....Last, appreciate the roads in Jacksonville!  I have blown out 3 tires on potholes since I have been here.

LOL, oh I believe it. I have family all over the Eastside (Gratiot, McCellan, Holcomb, Mack, etc.).

Today at the 6/11/14 Jacksonville Waterways Commission meeting 2014-305 new docking Rules and Penalties was deferred. This is very important legislation especially as a new CRA/DIA is being created and this new Authority will have absolute control over this new 4.8 miles of Waterfront. District 14 Jacksonville city councilman Jim Love is the sponsor of the legislation 2014-305 and his constituent works with the Foxy Lady and so he is addressing a concern through the legislative process. Capt. Mitch and the Foxy Lady are a great addition to Jacksonville and truly wish them all the good fortune and success going forward.
