John Delaney for Mayor?

This would be the best choice for the city.

Delaney was smart, laid back and forward thinking.

He could repair the projects that went astray, but more importantly, John had gathered around him the best and the brightest that the city had to offer.  Mousa, Moran, Wiles, Mullaney, etc...

They could definitely handle the concerns I posted in the excellent Mike Hogan for mayor thread:

Great Question, Billbo.

for myself:

1.  Growth Management.   Iron handed growth management to create recentralized development and ruthlessly cut off sprawl.  MUCH better management of our resources.

2.  Making basic government functions like Mass Transit and Public Health work.
No more of these freaking sprawl making highways, instead create a mass transit system that works and that all people in Jacksonville would be proud and happy to use.  Environmental clean up and public health needs to be given a priority.

3.   Development of the Port.  We have unique opportunities for  growth that are being actively pissed away.  It will take us ten years of projected growth until our port reaches the same tonnage as Savannah for the love of Pete.  The channel needs to be deepened, and access to ships has to be made a priority.   There are billions of dollars that would go into the economy if we were only smart enough to do it.

4.  Economic Development.  Bringing better jobs and better industries to Jax.  Making sure they are greeen, sustainable and higher income.  Attracting and keeping more educational opportunities and graduees here.  Reaching out to globalize our economy and in the process globalize our outlook.

5.  Long Term planning, including environmental concerns like climate change, its effect on our shorelines, no more low lying development of any kind, and opening the doors of the mayors office to futurist ideas and thoughts.

6.  Quality of life.   Improving the cultural and recreational options for the whole city, based out of a centralized, easy to access via public transit urban core.  Free internet access for all citizens.

7.  Conversion of our cities energy policy to one that either strongly encourages solar based home power, or makes the installation of solar systems mandatory on all dwellings and public buildings.

8.  Racial and Cultural cooperation and progress.    Economic development and participation in all areas of our municipal life, from Law enforcement and education to recreational opportunities.

And those are the things that I would like to see on a mayoral platform.

I suppose there are people who hate Delaney, but my God the man was inspirational to the city.

Steve

I second that - But I don't see it happening

Jason

I agree.  He is pretty well set as president of UNF.  Why give that up for the headache of City Hall?

But if you are reading this Mayor Delaney....  PLEASE COME BACK!!!  :)

If the city is going to need more tax money he has proven he can get it.

I dont know that he can legally run again.  In any case, he wasnt perfect, but he was a heck of lot better than Peyton.

yes, he can legally run again.  looking back, could Jackie Brown have been worse?  well, ok, maybe slightly??  but it would've been close.

WHERE!~!~!~ What? Hate JD??? Thats blasphemy!!!! Dude was the best Jax ever had IMO.

I remember in elementary school Delaney was running against Hazouri and lost.

Hazouri wasn't too bad though. He did get rid of the tolls and clean the air a little.

This John PAYME guy what has he done for Jax?? The list has got to be short.

All BS aside Stephen is JD allow to be re elected??

Mousa, Wiles and Mullaney are the "best and brightest?"  Surely you jest..

Let's not forget they are serving the current Administration you label a failure.

Mousa has been working for Peyton like a month or less, and already he has found a way to potentially $45 on the courthouse.  His record with Delaney speaks for itself.

The degree to which Wiles and Mullaney have created the maliasie that has been the Peyton Administration, I am not in a position to really know.

Delaney never ran against Hazouri.

Uh, Peyton came back to beg Mousa to work for the administration for $225 an hour, and has been there for about a month.  The administration had a grade of F before this month.

Wiles is the PR person.  Personally, I don't think for a PR person, she is doing a bad job.

I haven't seen Mullaney's day to day work, so I can't comment.

Mousa to me is the key.  He was the day to day boss of the administration (after Lex Hester)

Yeah, Mousa did a pretty good job of parlaying his city job into a high-paying private gig that was stocked w/ contracts from....THE CITY.  Now, he's back part-time for the city while still keeping that high-paying private gig for a contractor that does millions in business with...THE CITY.

All quite ethical and honorable, I'm sure.

wow.  you sound like a real insider there, RainorShine.

I suppose Mousa should have taken an oath of poverty and moved to kentucky or something.

Naw, Spiff.  I'm sure most of the taxpayers would have been happy with honest employment.  Just a guess.

You know what - I'd pay every one of Peyton's staffers twice what they are making now if they could deliver half of what Mousa and Delaney delivered together.

It's quite interesting how if you look at the four vertical Better Jax Projects, the on time - on budget factor was inversely related to the amount of time the Peyton Administration dealt with it:

Ballpark = 0% Peyton, On Time, Under Budget
Arena = ~5% Peyton, On Time, On Budget
Library = ~50% Peyton, Late, Over Budget
Courthouse = ~90% Peyton, do I need to go there?

sounds kinda close to libel there, rain.   are you implying that mousa is dishonestly employed?

Lol.  Me doth think the point was quite clear.  I'll anxiously await the serving.

well said Stephen...now only if you would always do the same!
