Hell I wouldn't care if they resurrect Al Capone and Pablo Escobar, as long as the job gets done. Better to read about their personal insanity and have a livable beautiful city, with transit, industry and recreation, then to sit on the banks of the mighty river and ROT! Gee is my frustration showing?

I'd stick Glorious Johnson on the list.  From my discussions with her, I know she's open to a broad agenda that would encompass moving Jacksonville forward in many of the ways outlined above.  We've never had much of an activist local government, so I can't say that anyone (Mayor or Council) is going to tackle global warming or energy independence.  But few people come to mind who could get spending under control, tame the JEDC, be strategic with our limited resources, and develop new opportunities with the port, transit, and quality of life like Councilwoman Johnson.  To say nothing of cultural and race relations should she be elected.  Her insider-outsider status is the huge X factor that could drive a new agenda for the city.

From the earlier lists, Matt Carlucci  is a personal favorite of mine.  So is Weinstein, though he's heading to Tallahassee for sure.  I don't foresee President Delaney leaving UNF.

I like the chances of At-Large Councilmembers or Constitutional Officers who've been elected county-wide better than District Councilmembers who've been on maybe 15k (voted) ballots.  And I can't see anyone making a serious run who's lost recently in another election.

There could be other notables in the community that might be looking for a change of pace.  In some ways we have to see what shakes out of the 2008 races.  It's so early to be talking about this -- but nonetheless it's quite fun.

(Edit to add -- we'll also have to see what shakes out of the 2010 races, after some term-limited folks are looking for new work...)

Interesting Jimmy. What exactly is the broad agenda?? Is it for the normal people?
