It was ugly to you...not to me...
Ugly and beautiful are in the eye of the beholder....
I happened to think it was an interesting design
So sue me....

Avonjax, they say one man's treasure is another one's trash.  Just look around.  Outside of the historic districts, this community loves its stucco boxes.

And Riversidegator I am not trying to claim that we should embrace bad architecture. But you are kinda setting your standard for what equals good architecture. And I happen to not agree with you on this one.  Based on the rendering I liked the look of it personally. There are plenty of eclectic buildings in Five Points and although I don't like them all to me that makes the neighborhood unique.

And also I live in Avondale and I live in a stucco house that I love...If you mean you dont like the new stucco houses and buildings that keep popping up everywhere I agree some are very bad. But some are very nice too.
I also love brick and wood.
I love modern and I love Klutho.
In other words I like a variety of designs and yes I would love to see some SOUTH FLORIDA Design in our downtown instead of the BORING CRAP that dominates our skyline.
I was born in Fernandina and grew up in Jacksonville and we are as conservative and boring as we have ever been.
Oh yeah I love palm trees too.....

If anyone has ever tried to find a parking spot near there at lunchtime, you'll understand why this didn't pass.

I try to schedule my publix trips before 11am or after 2pm because of parking.  It's insane!

Matt

the development looks like it has enough parking for the tenants, its got the parallel spots
and who cares about them dagum car-drivers anyway ;)
to me it seems unfair to force a development to cater parking to non-owners even if there is a bad situation
there is the same amount of parking as by the strip mallish things ergo bad parking should be expected

what we really need there is a light rail -or some other transport besides bus- stop! 8)

just an opinion

PS If ya really want to park, park on the roof of the 1story buildings...you just need a ramp...and a fast car...and probobly some crack.. :o

and i think the architecture is perfectly fine except for the roofs(sp?). it would be a nice contrast to a pretty cookie-cutter/drab city. (not ranking on jax...i -like avonjax & thelakelander- would just like to see different stuff to add to the environment, air, and urbanity)
