This is awful news (I am glad that nobody was hurt).  Is it just me or is our area prone to more DUI arrests because of our sprawl and lack of alternate transportation?

QuoteTim Deegan, First Coast News' chief meteorologist, was arrested on a drunk-driving charge Saturday in Jacksonville Beach, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
Deegan, 54, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or chemical substance, according to the Sheriff's Office jail log. He was booked about 9:48 p.m. and released on his own recognizance at 11:19 a.m. Sunday.

The initial arrest was made by the Jacksonville Beach Police Department.

Information was not immediately available about the circumstances of the arrest.

Deegan could not be reached. First Coast News had no immediate comment but was to make a statement Sunday.

For more, check back to Jacksonville.com and the Times-Union on Monday.

One hasn't lived until one has been arrested.  ;D

You are bad, Mr. Chamblin!  I prefer not subsisting on bologna sandwiches at the Crossbars Hotel, thank you very much!  LOL

Lucky for him he got out ROR. I know it cost me $500 (bail for $5,000) to get my buddy out after he blew a .081 and it was his first offense.

maybe so, but there's pretty much no excuse for drinking and driving

Unfortunately, excessive drinking or drugging while driving, too often results in serious injuries or death.

The jail visit can be kinda interesting though.  How often do we experience a condition wherein we are forced to remain captive.... behind bars?... as an adult?  That's a pretty radical predicament for us "regular ... normal" citizens.  Being forced to remain in a hospital bed via a serious sickness is somewhat similar.... but not as profound in impact, as it is usually "possible" for one to exit the hospital room.

To be held captive behind bars goes against every natural pressure within an individual used to total freedom.  For the average person its like being a caught or trapped wild animal... like a bird or rabbit, held tight by its captor.. the heart beating, the eyes wild ... frightened and unnatural in the hand of its captor.

In the end of course, one must accept captivity, and play the game, no matter the reason for captivity.  If you do have the occasion to experience jail, be cautious, as most of the workers, wielding a little power and only a little sense, have been conditioned to be abusive, and to be liars, and thieves.

I agree.  It's a lot easier to call a cab, choose a designated driver or stay on someone's couch.  One, however, can't help but envy cities with more density and better mass transit.

Move to Riverside or Jax Beach and live within walking distance of the bars! (If only it were that easy for everyone).

Gator Frank devoted about an hour on Friday to 1010xl and discussed this with a local attorney. The lawyer said that if you go out drinking, stick 20 bucks in your shoe, to use for a cab. Do it before you go out, and use it for the ride. Best 20 bucks you can spend, especially when the average DUI defense, for a good person can run as high as $10,000

Jaxson, IMO it's a H-U-G-E stretch to make the topic of Tim Deegan getting arrested for DUI into a transit-related story.

thats because you literally dont understand transit or some of the very principles of the urbanist movement.

We would have way less dui, if there was a transit alternative, every city with transit across the country has already proven that statistically.

You would have a legit argument, only IF taxicabs didn't exist....

Well I am sure Tim has a cell phone, knows a few people who could have come and picked him up, called a cab, called a limo service, found another way to get from point a to point b. No need to build a new system, when he had options, he made a bad choice.

Looks like mostly cloudy conditions, winds out of the northeast, and a strong chance of a suspended driver's license
