Hello all!

My name is Keri and I am a humble young'n in love with my city and excited to watch the next few decades unfold.

I am a 25yo Douglas Anderson grad aimlessly wandering around the city watching patiently to see where my intuition takes me. I have been involved with the music scene in Jax since I was a baby as my father is a jazz pianist who played piano and bass with Teddy Washington for many many moons. I went through the instrumental music programs of Lavilla and DA only to discover that poetry and singing are really my interests - but truthfully anything creative is a shiny penny for my attention to latch on to. I have been knitting for years, I spent some time doing graphic design and sign-building, I am currently a figure model for several art groups and I am (rather recently) hosting an open mic in Murray Hill.

I like my beer dark and thick. I like my art ridiculous and absurd. I like my music live in the backyards of friends.

I am intrinsically and profoundly interested in any moment where creative and passionate minds are gathered- I am in love with anything sincere- and I am looking forward to adding my voice to the collective established here. :)

O friend you are like nothing I have seen before.
What do you have within your sweet spirit?
Somehow you are the light in everyone's eyes.

Welcome to the forum Keri.  My son also graduated D.A. and attended LaVilla.  You may have been a year ahead of him.  You guys were so fortunate to be able to attend those wonderfully creative schools.  Have you though about adding your creative mind to the "One Spark" efforts?  You might find that a bunch of fun and meet even more folks you can relate too in the arts community.  :)

Do you believe that when the blue jay or another bird sings and the body is trembling, that is a signal that people are coming or something important is about to happen?

Oh Diane I agree so wholeheartedly. I'm pretty gushy about my experience at DA if prompted, and my little sister went there directly after I graduated as well. Who is your son if you don't mind me asking?

Yknow, I went to OneSpark each day of the event because I was so in love with the way it made downtown feel. I wasn't officially involved but I was lightly involved with Susan Natale's wacky-armed man in front of Chamblin's... that thing was a beast.

Welcome!  Very happy to make the acquaintance of anyone who loves and cares about Jacksonville.

My son is Kui-Kuautli Melendez.  He began in Creative Writing and then went into Tech.  He is currently studying nursing.  :)  Most everyone knows him as Kui  :)

Contact One Spark and ask how you can help and be a part of the next event.  :)

That's Kui on the right and my husband on the left, another Melendez in the middle.  lol

Pleased to make your acquaintance, Ms Keri.  Welcome to Metro Jacksonville.  I love your background and interest.  I'm sure we all can't wait to hear your voice on MJ.

Thanks all for the welcome so far :)

Diane, I know of your son but I don't think we ever actually interacted - I'm positive we have mutual friends though. Very cool!
And regarding OneSpark: Yes ma'am!!

Welcome aboard! Part of your quote, "watching patiently to see where my Intuition takes me." How would you like to kayak Downtown and you can sit in the front and direct.
I'm All In.
