Kerry

Hello MetroJax.  I just wanted to take a minute and introduce myself.

My name is Kerry and I have lived in Jax about 10 years.  For a good portion of the last 15 years I have been involved with a grass-roots movement in Oklahoma City (my adopted hometown) to restore the walkable urbanism that was destroyed by suburban migration and subsequent urban renewal efforts.  After a lot of labor I am happy to report that the efforts were not in vain as OKC is now well on it way to re-urbanizing the inner core and the downtown adjacent neighborhoods, re-introducing streetcars, and building a regional commuter rail network.

I am now ready to lend my support to those in my new 'hometown' of Jacksonville who are already engaged in these activities.  Being stuck in suburbia it wasn't until the last 9 months or so that I started to appreciate how great urban Jacksonville is and can't wait to get started in helping rebuild it.

Education wise I graduated from the University of Oklahoma in '94 with a degree in Geography and I recently completed the New Urbanism certificate program through the University of Miami School of Architecture.  I also had a short stint as a City Planner in Oldsmar, FL   My next step is to join the Congress for the New Urbanism.

Anyhow, I can see from the MetroJackosnville website and this forum that I have a lot of catching up to do so I better get started.

Kerry,
Welcome aboard.
Want to kayak Downtown?

Thanks for the offer.  Hit me up again when things warm back up.  My previous experience with kayaking suggests that I will also be doing a fair amount of swimming.

You are certainly in the right place... and we could use your help!  Welcome!
In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."

Do you believe that when the blue jay or another bird sings and the body is trembling, that is a signal that people are coming or something important is about to happen?
