Care should be taken in labeling anyone with a square Confederate flag (The actual flag was square, the one we are more familiar with is in reality the Confederate Naval Jack 'naval jack.). The KKK and it's NAZI friends are not even connected  to the old Confederacy, And because they are loud they have done the South terrible damage. 

Son's of Confederate Veterans and the United Daughters of the Confederacy are direct decedents of the actual soldiers. Each chapter (known as camps) will gladly people of any race into the fold. I believe the camp in Winter Garden is about a 50/50 mix of races. The camp in Deland/Deltona has spent a great deal of money building wheel chair ramps for handicapped in some of the poorest communities in Central Florida. The meetings include historical discourse, film presentations, artifact collecting, field trips/tours, teaching in local schools via reenactments.

They're membership, because it requires genealogy and proof of your ancestors service to the Confederacy, thus many Black men, Oriental, Latino are not only welcome, they are seen as brothers.

HOW?

In a reunion event of the early 1900's it was discover that the host city had built temporality housing for the old
Confederates. When the White Confederate reunion officers found out, a large section of this massive event gave up their beds to honor the Black Confederate soldiers.

Lastly, train loads of elderly men and women of the Confederacy were scheduled to perform a reenactment at Gettysburg. As   the armies closed in during  the climatic charge up The Wheat field, the Confederates dropped their guns as the Union did the Union veterans, both sides poured from over the stone fence and embraced each other.

Neo 'Nazi /wannabe Confederates have no right to the flags of either side.

Some of my ancestors fought on the side of the Confederacy.  I wish they had not done so.
