I went back after the Suns game on Wednesday afternoon to give the place a 2nd chance.  The draft beer was there this time, and the pricing was reasonable, but the beer selection stinks in my opinion.  They had 9 beers on tap consisting of Rolling Rock, Yeungling, Guinness, ShockTop, Natural Light, Bud Light, Miller Light, a cider and Smithwick.  Kind of weak for an Irish Pub if you ask me.  The bottled selection wasn't much better, but who drinks bottled beer at an Irish pub anyway?  Meh...

what's wrong with Guiness and Smithwick at an Irish pub....plus ShockTop is real good!

Nothing wrong with Guinness or Smithwicks...those are staples and should definitely be there, they just need some more to go with it!  Do they really need Miller Lite, Bud Light AND Natural Light all on tap?!  Oh, and I had a ShockTop...it's not that great.

tree4309's a beer nazi.

but I gotta say we're both spoiled as we're used to the variety that other places in town have on draft.

then again mr tree, it's by the sports complex/arena,  sooooooo do you think all the jacksonville sports fans or those that are getting out of a tim mcgraw concert are pissed they can't get a chimay, hoegarden or deadguy?

"Shoooooooot man, they got natty light AND bud  on draft, hell yeah bub!"

I'm with you.  If Gas Knob wasn't an Irish pub it wouldn't be a big deal, but it is.  Natty light on tap?  Besides the Irish band playing, I would have never guessed the place was supposed to be an Irish pub.

Too bad.  That's a hard spot to do business in because other than game days, its a pretty isolated location.

Me, my girlfriend and her mom tried tried this place during the summer.  We looked at the website and were excited by the menu.  Upon arriving the menu was nothing near what was on the website.  It was basically a mostly deep fried menu.  The waitress apologized and said the menu would be implemented soon.  I don't know if this ever happened.  Our dinner was overpriced and we never returned.

Another reason retail clustering is critical to survival in this city.  The Gas Knob was a stand alone in an area with no other retail and no action during the day.  Sad to see another bite the dust.  I wonder what sort of an establishment would make it in that location?  Maybe it just needed better management?

Not sure but it at least needed to not be called an Irish pub. I've never been but it sounds like a lot of people were expecting something else. Nothing wrong with domestic drafts and fried food, in fact I would expect that considering it's location, but call it what it is then. A sports bar.

Oh but they have Guinness? Wow, I guess that makes every Ale House, Mellow Mushroom and Sneakers an Irish pub.

Went there one time during lunch. The service was slow and bad. The food was slow and bad.
