All Aboard Florida close to letting construction bids
Published: July 30, 2013
MIAMI – All Aboard Florida, which is proposing to construct a privately operated passenger train service from Miami to Orlando, is close to putting out bids to design and build infrastructure for the service. Husein Cumber, executive vice president for corporate development for Florida East Coast Industries, says the company would be awarding design and engineering packages for varying segments of the 240-mile corridor in August or September. Florida East Coast Industries is the parent company of All Aboard Florida.

"We anticipate beginning construction on the rail infrastructure between Miami and West Palm Beach by the end of this year," he tells the Miami Herald. The service will have four stations: Miami, Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, and Orlando. The rail infrastructure is expected to cost more than $1.5 billion.

All Aboard Florida is expected to launch by the end of 2015, Cumber tells the Florida Transportation Commission. Sixteen daily trains would leave from each of the two terminal stations, Orlando International Airport and downtown Miami, each day. Trains would take about three hours to complete each one-way trip.
