JAX Chamber will name state Rep. Daniel Davis as its new president and chief executive officer Friday afternoon, according to sources familiar with the selection process.

Isn't that the jerk that said people apposed to the mobility fee moratorium were "nothing but noise"? If anything he'll be a determent to Downtown revitalization. Can't his appointment be contested or protested? We cannot afford this Good ol boy asshole!

If anything, he needs to be run out of any position of power or decision making.

I don't see this being good for Downtown at least from the Chamber perspective. Good thing they have those office renovations underway or he would probably suggest moving the office to the southside. This is a perfect example of the good ole boy network doing its thing. smh.

Downtown is much bigger than the Jax Chamber, so I don't feel there is much to worry about. 

However, it is a surprising decision to see someone who comes across very anti-downtown selected to lead Jax Chamber when we are arguably on the verge of the greatest downtown rennaissance Jacksonville has experienced since the Great Fire.

The region is more than just downtown. Downtown has plenty of advocates. The main question should be, is Davis going to remain in the legislature and take the new job. It is too early to say he is not an advocate of downtown, but to the chamber what difference, if we get a new business in the county, does it make if it is located downtown or not. The Chamber is all encompassing, remember it has a beaches department, and regional councils including a downtown council And the board of the chamber, not the director, makes chamber policy.  Downtown is showing remarkable signs of coming back. But a consistency of city government policy about downtown is much more important than a Chamber resolution.

Jax's Chamber seems pretty powerful to me.

The Chamber is one of the few places where a petition drive might actually make some headway. PETITIONS, protests and news media attention to this sore subject could shut him down. I do not want ANYONE who is so obviously against the will of the citizens to be in a position of power, real or imagined. Sure Jacksonville is more then downtown, but you have to ask yourself, do you want this guy sitting across the table from some fortune 500 executives selling your city? "Jacksonville is a great place for your relocation, but it's noisy citizenry really sucks." Why does this not surprise me?

Daniel Davis is nothing but a self serving, follow the money kind of guy.  Who are the big donators to the Jax Chamber? Who are the power people behind how the money gets spent, what the Chamber supports and who gets the publicity?  This helps him and his friends in some large way and if you hope to have Downtown be important to him, you better be ready with that proverbal stuffed full envelope to slide across the table to him.

Most likely someone has already done that and Jacksonville is about to suffer at Davis and friends hands again very soon, with the "new" JAX Chamber playing some crucial role.

But of course, what do I know, I'm only part of the noise.

I was at the JAX 2025 meeting on Saturday, They announced davis as the ceo; and people clapped their hands. I just stood there silent and shaking my head. I really wanted to boo, but I thought that would damage any future I might have in aiding the city's progress. That is, if there will be any progress. I'm losing my faith in JAX2025 unfortunately, I think it's starting to look more like lip service, another way for the city to say well, we tried again but the majority of citzens just don't want much change. I hope I'm wrong.

I too was there...and think it was polite applause at best

This guy was being interviewed on one of the morning shows on FCN this morning. On of his comments was on how he thinks we need to be spending more on infrastructure. Glad to know that he feels "we" = taxpayers, as opposed to developers/builders.
