History Buffs, I received this from the friends of the library, and forgot to post it earlier.  Sorry for the late notice!

Hi Friend of the Jacksonville Public Library.

The Jacksonville Historical Society and the Friends of the Jacksonville Public Library present a Reception and Book Signing with author T.D. Allman, a freelance journalist and author of the recently published book, Finding Florida: The True History of the Sunshine State.

The event will be presented on Thursday, May 9, 2013 at Old St. Andrews 317 A. Philip Randolph Blvd.

The Reception and Book Signing begins at 6:30 p.m followed by the Program at 7 p.m.

Allman claims many historians and writers have falsely represented the state's history. His 556-page book attempts to present the real Florida story, not only offering up a cadre of characters and villains, but also focusing on a handful of heroes, not surprisingly, a number from Jacksonville and North Florida.

Allman, a Harvard graduate, is also author of Rogue State: America at War with the World and Miami: City of the Future.

Among other publications, his writing has appeared in National Geographic, The New Yorker, The New York Times, The New Republic, and Rolling Stone.

As a foreign correspondent for Vanity: Fair, he interviewed world figures, including Yasser Arafat, Boris Yeltsin, Helmut Kohl, and Manuel Noriega.

Don't miss the Thursday, May 9, 2013 program.

It's all at Old St. Andrews, headquarters of the Jacksonville Historical Society, located at 317 A. Philip Randolph Boulevard. Free parking is available in the lot behind the Merrill House, or park along Duval Street, east of the Merrill House. Security will be on duty. Your guests are welcome.
