Here are some images from the first statewide legal recreational pot holiday known as "4:20." These were taken yesterday in Denver, Colorado.

No I didn't, there is a slim chance the shooter was 'on pot' or at least 'on pot alone.'  Cannabis (/ˈkænəbɪs/; Cán-na-bis) is a genus of flowering plants that includes three putative varieties, Cannabis sativa, Cannabis indica, and Cannabis ruderalis. These three taxa are indigenous to Central Asia, and South Asia. Cannabis has long been used for fibre (hemp), for seed and seed oils, for medicinal purposes, and as a recreational drug. Industrial hemp products are made from Cannabis plants selected to produce an abundance of fiber.

Besides a bout of hilarity, euphoria and a really bad case of the munchies, pure weed will do nothing to make anyone aggressive. Fact is, pot might cause Colorado to lower the interstate highway speed limit to somewhere around 12-16mph.

Bad shit happens, every man dies, but not every man lives.

QuoteJUST GOT THIS OFF THE WEED BLOG:

Unfortunately, some idiots that don’t represent the marijuana community had to ruin it for everyone. It sounds like the people that were injured are going to be OK, which is obviously a good thing, but the marijuana movement no doubt has a black eye that it will have to deal with. Who the F brings guns to a peaceful rally? There is no place for violence and/or weapons at a marijuana rally or other event. Period. Everyone is there to have a good time. What a sad thing. It sounds like the suspects that did it are still at large. It’s not everyday that I urge people to cooperate with the police, but I would like to see these guys apprehended because their actions were dangerous and harmful to the people they injured, as well as to the image of marijuana in general. Below is a description of the suspects from Examiner.Com:

Police are searching for two men who fired shots during the 420 Pot Rally the Denver Post reported on April 20. According to a tweet from the Denver Police one of the 420 Rally suspects is a black male wearing a black and white checked shirt. In another tweet from the Denver Police, a second suspect in the 420 Rally in Denver shooting is a light-skinned black male, approximately 6-feet tall and 180 pounds wearing a gray hoodie, black pants and a Caroline baseball cap.

My libertarian side supports the legalization of MJ, but "events" such as this are stupid.  And while cannibis, like any other substance or item, can not cause a crime, no one should be surprised that an "event" which celebrates intoxicants will attract those that seek to profit on the attraction of the intoxicant to some  or the weakend mental state that results from its use.

NotNow: So, by that criteria you don't think there should be Beer festivals either? If we're trying to avoid "events which celebrate intoxicants" maybe NFL games should get the axe too. Plenty of fights and the occasional death happen at those too, and with far more frequency. There are plenty of holidays that cater to the overindulgence of alcohol, is there really a compelling reason that a legal, generally peaceful gathering be allowed to take place one day a year?

NotNow

Crabernacle:  I did not say that any "festivals" should not take place.  I said that "events" which celebrate intoxication...hemp festivals, keggers, whatever....are stupid.  Such activity often ends in crime and/or tragedy...but hey, knock yourself out if you are an adult and wish to do so.  Holidays, NFL games, and other events you mention are, believe it or not, not required drinking exercises.  Liquor advertisements are just telling you that.  (Or maybe your immature friends.)  The fights, occasional death and gunfire are exactly what I am talking about.  About 98% of the time the idiot who has become mad/offended/"dissed"/upset enough to do one of those things is drunk/stoned/"tripping".

Have all of the legal, generally peaceful gatherings that you want.  But there is a reason your Mother told you to avoid certain people/places/things.  She was a wise woman.  Celebrating with friends is one thing.  Attending large gatherings of strangers with the intent of leaving your reason and judgement in a debilitated state is .... not wise.

I tend towards anti social so I see most gatherings and events as places to avoid. I don't dislike crowds, it's more the individuals. ;-)

I do not understand people who smoke marjunia and I dont think I ever will. Why do they need a "holiday". If thats the case there needs to be an official drinkers holiday, crack smoking day, cocaine snorting day, etc. Not to mention, everyone that does smoke feels the need to advertise it everyone " 420 all day". I actually find it quite ignorant, and this is coming from a friend of SEVERAL smokers.

<sarcasm> The City of Boulder announced that the city went completely dead as the whole town drove to Denver to celebrate the light up your joint moment. Once the light up was finished, road accidents on Interstate 25 going back to Boulder increased 30% as drivers, high from the experience, had troubles keeping their cars in the correct lanes. Many ended up in Fort Collins at the White Castle looking for a post joint slider to appease their new found munchies<sarcasm complete>
