I guess you just can't keep a good thing down forever... See there is HOPE for Jacksonville too! Most don't know that the old car company that vanished in the 1960's only did so in part. The Avanti sports car kept right on in production under it's own label, becoming a ledgend. The rest of the company made such tiny things as major pumping equipment for oil fields, locomotives, Gravely Tractors, and finance as well as leasing.

The cars didn't die due to bad service or design, they just couldn't fight the same mega-force that closed the Trolleys, Nash, Hudson, American Motors etc... GM - Ford - Chrysler and their good buddies.

So RE-ENTER Studebaker in 08 or 09... YES.

It all started when Avanti Motors, bought the Studebaker name for their new "Hummer on Steroids" the Extreme Utility Vehicle or XUV at the Chicago Auto show in 2005...

Roumor mill was flying, what the hell??? Studebaker??? Then came the new auto show and WHAM!

Tease your brain this these hybrid diesel-electrics due out soon...

Here is the Phoenix II

The new Avonaco

Both under $30,000

I think as long at those old suburbans  don't get titled, studebaker can sell them as new until, well, they sell.  Admit it, they are suburbaroos!  Now the Avonaco--that's an Avanti for sure.
'As a sinner I am truly conscious of having often offended my Creator and I beg him to forgive me, but as a Queen and Sovereign, I am aware of no fault or offence for which I have to render account to anyone here below.'   Mary, queen of Scots to her jailer, Sir Amyas Paulet; October 1586

Those cars are ok, but they really aren't flashy enough for me.

Flashy Enough, you just didn't look deep enough in the "show room files"

This is the new S-3

The Space Cadet Class or A-51 g... (Area 51 ground)

My personal favorite, wouldn't this look sweet along side a private railway car, parked under the big shade trees next to my own siding on some hilly acres around Sanderson? But as most are underr $30,000 the new PRESIDENT is $229,000 for starters...

Gatorback, these are not the new Avantis, I'll post the new Avanti in a moment.

The Following is a photo review of the new AVANTI factory and products hand made in Cancun Mexico. All of these pictures are of the new models 07 and 08's of America's last hand made automobile. If you ever get to see one at a dealership (usually shared by other quality autos) even if you don't like the looks, go and take a sit in this machine. An American ledgend, Rolls Royce of the Sports Car World, collectors item, and head turner all in one small machine. BTW, when you order yours, your initals will be hand sticthed into the seat fabrics, head rest etc... Unless you want it dedicated..."To Libby With Love..." etc. Nice touch.

THE STORY:
With sales under cut by the big 4 car makers, Studebaker was hanging on by a thread to it's automobile line. Then in 1960 the idea came up for a true American purebred sportscar. Spare no expense was the word and Raymond Lowery, that designed everything from the COKE bottle to the famous Pennsylvania Railroad Passenger Streamliner trains, came aboard. He challenged the company to think ahead, find a timeless design, one without change. He also spoke of the vehicle looking like it is motion even when standing still. By 1962 the car hit the road, and GM, FORD, DODGE and AMC quickly answered. Corvettes, Cudas, Mustangs, Hornets, all came to the attack. By the mid 1960's the industrial giant Studebaker decided to focus on it major lines such as pumps, leasing, farm equipment, Gravely, Worthington, and Alco Locomotives. The car line continued a few more years in Canada. When the US car line was closed down it was at the same plant that had built the covered wagons for the California Gold Rush, under the Studebaker Name. The senior employees believed so much in the Avanti as a success, they mortgaged their homes and talked the company into selling that portion of the assembly line. As the first hand built car in America for years, the name took off in collector circles. Several owners and moves later, Studebaker is back, and Avanti has a brand new Factory... I for one just can't wait!

Grand Opening of the new Studebaker plant in Cancun, Mexico last year.

Like the famous British Spitfire Aircraft, one doen't sit in an AVANTI, rather the AVANTI surrounds one in a cradle of luxury and comfort.

Got to have one of these babys before I kick off... I almost did once in Titusville, FL then backed out for a new Chevy Van! Hippie over Collector? Or just plain nutz... I'll always wonder what if until I get my own.
