The people who lived in the Ephrata Commune in New York in the 1840's were so obsessed that Christ would return that they posted 24 hour "watchers" to make sure they would spot him as soon as he appeared in the east.

If one places ones energies into following him and less on predicting his return, then you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

True, there has always been an element of Christian's that believe they can somehow calculate the date of his return, after all, that would be convenient wouldn't it?  This is even more true of cults or religions that left mainstream orthodox Christianity.

Jehovah's Witnesses pegged the return in 1914, and when the prediction failed, they then claimed he returned 'invisibly' to rule the Watchtower organization.  In 1918, the Watchtower publications began predicting, under the direction of 'Judge' Rutherford, that Old Testament patriarchs or "princes" would be resurrected back to earthly life in 1925. It was taught that these "princes" would become earth's new leaders and that their resurrection would be a prelude to the inauguration of a new earthly society and the abolition of death.  Rutherford ordered the construction of a luxury mansion near San Diego.  Rutherford named the property Beth Sarim and dedicated it for the use of the expected Old Testament "princes", who were now expected to be headquartered in San Diego instead of Jerusalem. When they didn't show up either, he then moved into the house to 'keep it for them.'

I really don't know why this numbers game attracts so many people, Mark 13:26 says, "And then shall they see the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory." followed by this in Mark 13:32 which states, "But of that day and that hour knows no man, no, not the angels who are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father."

Anytime someone claims to have an inside scoop on Christ's return, it's probably time to ignore anything else they have to say.

I'm with you FSUJAX, it can't happen soon enough, there are indicators of complete economic collapse and world wide wars, but who can tell if these are the final wars spoken of in the Bible, or just more typical human behavior.

a) i should've realized there'd be an article that i could check back ov this.  i'm a little daft today.
b) clears that up, and it's what i suspected.  claiming that it's 50% ov ALL americans is both misleading and disrespectful.
