I saw a Latino fellow named Jesus (pronounced hay-soos) in Starbucks the other day. He had overturned the sugar and cream station while shouting "You have turned my father's coffee house into a den of vipers!".

Needless to say, I am following him on Facebook.

According to one 2008 poll, 76% of Americans are Christians, so that means that 38% of Americans believe the big dude will be returning.

I misspoke--Christians, not Americans.

38% is too high a number, Ron.

You might be right Ben.  However, if it is true that about 76% of Americans are Christians, and that 48% of Christians believe that this fellow will be returning in 40 years or so, then wouldn’t this mean that about 38% Americans believe that he will be returning?  And Bill….. you could probably extend that idea to cover most of the U. S.

What would be interesting is if they had a survey from 40 or 50 years ago. My bet is that roughly 50% of Christians would think the same thing. It's clear from the New Testament that Christians in 100 A.D. thought that the Second Coming was imminent.

The people who lived in the Ephrata Commune in New York in the 1840's were so obsessed that Christ would return that they posted 24 hour "watchers" to make sure they would spot him as soon as he appeared in the east.

Even Sir Isaac Newton was obsessed with Christ's return. Using mathematics, he attempted to calculate when the return of Christ might occur. He finally came to the conclusion that based on his work he "couldn't see Christ returning anytime sooner than the year 2061" but "that it was impossible to calculate with any certainty." (FYI: Global Oil Reserves are supposed to run out about 2063)

If one places ones energies into following him and less on predicting his return, then you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

I followed him on Facebook, so I'm good... Right?

This is basically "Free Beer Tomorrow" for Christians.
So I said to him: Arthur, Artie come on, why does the salesman have to die? Change the title; The life of a salesman. That's what people want to see.
