ExZooberation is coming up, which is one of their biggest fundraisers. They are probably planning to bring in some good revenue from that. It's a little out of my price range, but I hope to attend in the future.

The one thing I think the zoo drops the ball on is not hitting up members for donations. If they sent a mailer to every member saying "We want to build the best tiger exhibit in the world, can you send $20/$50/$100 to help make it happen" they would see a solid return.

The Zoo's Tiger exhibit will be set to open in March in time for the centennial.

Any chance Jacksonville Zoo getting a Panda?

edjax

Panda would be cool but from what I can tell only 4 zoos n the US currently have pandas:  Atlanta, Memphis, San Diego and Washington DC.

Pandas are about 5x as expensive to house as an elephant. They require alot of specialized nutrition, medical care (particularly for reproduction), and $1 million yearly fee to China.

JPMorgan Chase is sponsoring the giveaway of 100 individual zoo memberships to Chase cardholders (beginning Thursday).  As of Friday @ lunchtime, there were still ~70 remaining.

The zoo will also be building a manatee rehab center thanks to the capital improvement fund, though it won't something regular guests will see
