Downtown’s Main Street Bridge will be closed from 8 p.m. Thursday until 5:30 a.m. Friday for the shooting of a music video. The Main Street Bridge will be congested beginning at 8 p.m. Friday, but it won't be from traffic or boats passing underneath.
Instead, the Downtown drawbridge will be the site of a music video being recorded for rapper Rick Ross for his song "Box Chevy."

Jacksonville Sheriff's Office will be using hold-and-release traffic patterns until 5:30 a.m. Saturday.

Jeffrey Harper, executive producer at Miami-based Dre Films, said Wednesday that about 30 staff and production crew were en route to Jacksonville for the shoot and will stay through the weekend using local amenities.

Dre Films and Hollywood-based Facet Media LLC secured the permit for the bridge closure, according to the sheriff's office.

Harper said the reasons behind choosing Jacksonville for the production include Ross referring to the city in his song and the bridge being "historic, iconic."

In addition to the bridge, Harper said the video would include the Florida Theatre.

He said Ross and producers were in town last weekend to see the locales in person and liked the visuals enough to decide on making Jacksonville the production location.

Harper said production costs vary, but the Jacksonville shoot would be about $30,000.

He said he worked with the City and Todd Roobin of the Film & Television Department on arranging the deal, obtaining permits and making the production a reality.

"He's been great, very helpful," Harper said of Roobin.

Roobin was out of the office and unavailable for comment about the project and the economics and work behind such deals.

Mayor Alvin Brown spokeswoman Aleizha Batson said the City is assessing the economic impact of the production and would make the information available when it is compiled.

Harper advised that curious onlookers should not show during the production, which combined with hold-and-release traffic management could slow production.

QuoteDifferent traps, I was getting mail from
Polk County, Jacksonville, rep Melbourne

Rap Genius explains

QuoteHoly triple entendre Batman!

• A “trap” is a drug-dealing spot
• He keeps running his fancy cars through speed traps (thus getting tickets in the mail)
• Ross is receiving mail from his prison homies (Polk County, Jacksonville and Melbourne are all home to famous correctional facilities)

Melbourne is not home to any famous correctional institution....  I'm not aware of one is Jacksonville either.

Neither is Polk. These lyrics are from a guy making songs to make money.

QuoteWilliam Leonard Roberts II was born in Coahoma County, Mississippi, and raised in Carol City, Florida, near Miami. After graduating from Miami Carol City Senior High School, he later attended the historically black college Albany State University on a football scholarship. He derived his stage name from the drug trafficker "Freeway" Rick Ross, to whom he has no connection. Ross worked as a correctional officer for 18 months between December 1995 until his resignation in June 1997.

After being signed to Suave House Records, former label for rap duo 8Ball & MJG, he eventually signed a deal with Slip-n-Slide Records, which has been under the Def Jam umbrella since 2006. While signed to Slip-n-Slide, Ross toured with fellow rapper Trick Daddy and made guest performances on other Slip-n-Slide albums.

From the real Freeway Rick Ross:

QuoteThis is Freeway Rick Ross, I’m writing this to reply to William “Rozay” Robert’s interview with Funkmaster Flex addressing my lawsuit. In the streets a name is everything, in Hip Hop it is a career maker.  William claims that we are both street dudes and could’ve talked; he and his music label had that chance and thought they could ignore me because I had a life sentence. In prison when you have a federal life sentence you’re considered the walking dead, it is exactly for this reason that they dodged me when I sent multiple requests from prison to sit down about the use of my name and image. When I finally chased William down through my guys on the street, we talked via phone, he gave me a number, and said he would come down to the prison to “chop it up”. He never came, then changed the phone number.

On the street when you take someone’s name and image the first step is to properly approach them, then you can be the lil homie, if they accept. But because he thought I was the walking dead he just stole my name and image. I’m a street dude from LA, it’s documented. William is not a street dude. He is a guy from a good background that had to pass background tests to become an Officer. There’s nothing wrong with being an Officer, just don’t use my name if you were one to gain traction in rap, especially without asking me. I didn’t get treated well by police, they planted drugs and physically beat me, so to have an officer use my name to get into rap is disrespectful.

Yeezy's 'Devil in a New Dress' is one of my favorite songs. It's nice that Jax is gonna get a lil' exposure with the Ross vid. Rozay definitely has his fair share of controversies and troubles...

Can you imagine all of the censoring when they play the "Box Chevy' video on 106 & Park or something? Half of the song's lyrics will be bleeped out LOL.
