One would have hoped that in the year 2013 our world will still not be facing down the epidemic amounts of "Violence Towards Women"!  There is nothing weaker than a man who uses violence on women as a control, to vent anger or just for the "hell of it." They are nothing short of the most cowardly of beings and it happens every moment of every day in this country and around the world.  It must stop!

There are also many men in this world like Sir Patrick Stewart who is calling for a "Million Men" to stand against this violence.  It is good to know that he is using his fame to speak out against this horror.  It is also important to remember that every man alive can himself take the step to stop violence if he is perpetuating it and to speak out against it when other men do and let them know, that to abuse a woman is to abuse all who love them.  It must stop!

I am blessed to have raised two son's who look up to and respect the women of the world.  I am also blessed with a husband who would never harm a women but stand only to protect her.  I want all women to know how this feels!

QuoteNEW YORKâ€"Sir Patrick Stewart stood in the center of the Diplomat Ballroom at the UN Hotel here on Friday, pounding his fist methodically against a podium, each thump punctuated with a number ("One ... two ... three ...") until he got to nine.

"Every nine seconds a woman is assaulted or beaten in the United States," Stewart said.

The 72-year-old British-born actor, best known for his roles in "X-Men" and "Star Trek: The Next Generation," served as host for the launch of "Ring The Bell," a global campaign calling on one million men to make one million "concrete, actionable promises" to end violence against women.

"Violence against women is the single greatest human rights violation of our generation," Stewart said.
