The JITC, an extension of the Jax Chamber meets monthly to discuss the current trends, issues and goals of IT in the greater Jacksonville area. Great meetings for networking, job hunting or just getting informed on current issues.

JITC meetings are the last Tuesday of each month at 8 a.m. at FSCJ's Advanced Technology Center (401 State Street W) located on their downtown campus. Networking starts at 7:30 a.m. Guest speakers focus on technology issues in their respective industries. The cost is free for members and $10 for non-members.

Roland Garcia - Senior Vice President & CIO


About the Speaker:

Mr. Garcia serves as the Senior Vice President and CIO for Baptist Health System. With more than 34 years of experience in the healthcare IT field, he has responsibility for establishing plans and directions for Baptist Health technology investments. Mr. Garcia oversaw the development and opening of the first all Digital community hospital for Baptist Health including Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE) and documentation resulting in a real time Electronic Medical Record (EMR).


Prior to joining Baptist Health, he spent 15 years with Baptist Health Care in Pensacola, Florida as Vice President and CIO for that health system serving Northwest Florida and Southern Alabama. During his tenure there, BHC received numerous awards and recognition for innovation in use of technology including 100 Most Wired, 50 Best Websites across industries, Fortune 100 Best Employers, and Malcolm Baldrige Quality Award.



Mr. Garcia began his healthcare career at The Methodist Health System in Houston, Texas where he spent 10 years. This large teaching hospital was affiliated with Baylor College of Medicine, and world recognized for advances in medicine. He was part of the team that began introducing IT technologies in the care delivery process of this large health system.



Mr. Garcia has a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Management Information Systems from the University of Houston.


Mr. Garcia has resided in Jacksonville, Florida since January 2001. He is a member of the Leadership Jacksonville class of 2006. He was recognized as one of the business world's Premier 100 IT Executives by Computerworld across industries, and Top 25 healthcare CIO by Information Week. Locally, Mr. Garcia's community involvement includes membership and volunteer work with Leadership Jacksonville, American Red Cross Board of Directors, Jacksonville CIO Council, JAX Chamber CIO Council and the Northeast Florida Health Information Exchange CIO Council.
