A 32-year-old Jacksonville bicyclist was killed on U.S. Highway 1 in Volusia County after he pedaled into oncoming traffic and was hit by a pickup truck and three other vehicles early Thursday.

The victim, whose name wasn't immediately released, was wearing dark clothes and pedaling north on rain-slicked U.S. 1 after 9 a.m. when he violated the right of way and veered into the path of a southbound Chevrolet Silverado, the Florida Highway Patrol said. His Huffy bike didn't have any lights, FHP said.

The front left of the Silverado, driven by 55-year-old Larry Dorava of Ormond Beach, hit the bicyclist, the FHP said. Dorava pulled his vehicle over. But three other vehicles hit bicyclist and kept going south on U.S. 1, the FHP said.
Neither Dorava nor passenger Melanie Dorava of Holly Hill were hurt. An investigation is ongoing.
