QuoteA health-care consortium based in Florida wants to move its headquarters to Atlanta, possibly bringing with it at least 700 new jobs.

The catch: first it needs to land a multibillion-dollar U.S. Department of Defense contract.

TriServ Alliance LLC, a Jacksonville-based group of health plans from eight states, joined forces last April to organize a strategy to pursue the contract and expand as a company if it wins the deal.

TriServ is already scouting sites for its proposed Atlanta offices, searching multiple sites across metro Atlanta. The search is primarily focused close to Interstate 285, said CEO Charlie Abell. The company would need at least 60,000 square feet, and would likely target an existing building to house its operations.

As it grows, possibly by up to 700 employees, it would need the flexibility to increase its headquarters to at least 125,000 square feet, according to real estate sources familiar with the Atlanta market.

Well that sucks. It's not like Atlanta needs another fricking company. Why haven't they considered other buildings around Jax? I'm sure the city has some available to accomodate the company's growth? Wouldn't they be another great downtown tenant? Is there some other reason for the company to leave and go to ATL?

Maybe they see the same lack of progress that we do.

Or maybe they want to be closer to a major airport.  A lot of people don't realize that both ATL and Charlotte are where they are today, because of the actions taken years ago, to become centers of air travel.
