44,000 absentee ballots mailed with Fuller's name on them

From the Times Union today,

City hall just finally got around to filing suit against Jim Fuller to keep his name off the ballot, claiming that in May, a decision by the Supreme Court revised the term limit argument against constitutional officers. More waste to the taxpayers, thank you Mayor Brown, does your staff have any clue on what it is doing????

I have decided that I must respond on behalf of Mayor Brown's staff to Train's scurrilous question.

Yes sir, staff knows what staff is doing, it's just that staff is just a tiny bit late in doing it. Staff could have filed suit much earlier so that a court decision might have been possible BEFORE the election and the preparation of ballots, but you see, the stars and planets did not become favorably aligned until just now. Surely you can appreciate that! And besides, if a second election is necessary, the city might be able to raise the bar on a low election turnout. Raise the bar on low turnout? Does that metaphor somehow seem inconsistent? Well you know what I mean.

It was staff's hope and prayer (the latter having been pre-approved by Councilman Redman) that an earlier filing might be achieved, but Councilwoman Daniels had some trouble with some of the big words - over two syllables - in the Supreme Court's opinion, and she held staff up pending translation.

No good can come of your attacks on the Mayor, his staff, and the Council, and they all look forward to your apology.

So essentially the 4th floor at 117 West Duval Street is clueless, just as they were when they attacked the Jaguars?! A decision was made in May, and immediately after that court decision, surely 1 of the 40 attorneys on the 4th floor could have been assigned this task and worked to file suit, rather than waiting until July. Again, the lack of experience on the 4th floor is showing, with yet another bumbling waste of taxpayer dollars.

I would like an apology from every person on the 4th floor of 117 West Duval Street as to how this continues to happen and what is being done to prevent this in the future. Surely, 1 year and a few days into the regime, someone knows how to plan and execute?  :-[

I was going to point out that the General Counsel has to get permission from the City Council* to file suit.  That is true, but there were 2 or 3 Council meetings when the Counsel could have filed with the Council, before they finally got around to it at last Tuesday's meeting.  Why the delay?

I've got an Alarm that notifies "Charles Hunter has made comment" because such comments are typically so proven profound, valuable insight.

I also note:  General Counsel ("el") always gets to blame everything on "cil".

Thank you Charles Hunter.
