Coming soon: 50,000 photos from our past

Digital project with Historical Society will make seldom-seen images available to all

It’s been said that every picture is worth a thousand words.

If that’s true, then assistant librarian Debby Willis could be dealing with untold volumes as part of an ongoing historical photo digitization project at the St. Augustine Historical Society Research Library.

“We’ve got a huge cache of photographs here,” Willis said. “And we’re really just beginning to scratch the surface.”

Since its inception in 1883, the Historical Society has been stockpiling photographs â€" many going back to the earliest days of photography â€" of St. Augustine and its residents, said Bob Nawrocki, chief librarian for the Historical Society.
