It would be cool to start a thread on the famous or infamous families within a 75 mile radius of downtown Jacksonville. Stephendare is writing about a Holiday mansion, could this Holiday family be "THE" Holiday family from Valdosta? They have a long and colorful past, hunting trips around Jasper and Jennings, into the National woodlands. Holiday as in Doctor John, AKA: Doc Holiday of Tombstone AZ fame and the Battle (next to) the OK Corral? Other famous explorers, musical talents, military leaders, statesmen, inventors, gangsters, politicians, actors, artists, good guys, and bad, were all from within the magic circle... Confederate General Kirby Smith, head of the Dept of the West was a local boy.  Lots of amazing names... Wonder how many we could collect if we all pitched in... Could we even create a Jacksonville "WALK OF FAME" along the riverwalk? Will you join me in creating a history of who's - who.

So who's up for a thread of HISTORY WHO'S WHO?

SUGGESTED RULES:

Name, and 3-4 lines about why they are famous???
Must be from Jacksonville or within 75 mile radius.
Don't need to be Floridian-Georgian by birth, just made their home here.

We need to know:

Who they were/are
What they did
When they did it (if possible)
Where they did it (if known)
Why they did their famous deed (if known)
How they pulled it off (or got caught or whatever the ending)

Can you post a photo?

Go for it.
