"Currently, the Adam's Mark Hotel Downtown, erected in 1999, stands on the spot of the George Washington".

If the George Washington Hotel was on the corner of Adams and Julia did it move?? There is no Adam's Mark Hotel at that corner now. Its like a deli or something. Im comfused. Btw Lucian where do you get all these historical photos??

I mean we all spent a couple of days adding TONS of stuff downtown. Almost everything you see downtown came from those of use who used to post on metjax, and now post here.

interesting catch - I can promise that none of the board of this site wrote that.  Until 1960, the site of the Hyatt (former Adam's Mark) was part of the river.  The city reclaimed that land, and put a floating parking lot on top of the river (the courthouse lot is the same way today - look through the grating)

Obviously, a hotel couldn't be built on that, so they filled it in when the city gave them the land for the hotel.

As far as Adams and Julia, that is the site of the courthouse that supposedly will be built someday.

Ok Steve, reason I was asking is because the article used to be shorter then what it is now. With that quote never being updated or changed. I knew we had an Adams Mark but I wasn't quite sure what bank it was on.  Good stuff!
