Regarding the photograph of the Desoto Hotel in Lost Jacksonville. Downtown
Hotels: The Grande Dames

The caption, regarding its location, is incorrect.   This hotel was not located
in Springfield.  Polks 1925 city directory lists “Hotel De Soto - opposite
Jacksonville Terminal Station” (exhibit A).   Further, the Sanborn map shows it
located at the foot of the Park Street viaduct on Lee Street, directly across
from the Jacksonville Union Terminal (exhibit B).   Finally, the aerial
photograph (exhibit C) does, in fact, show the vacant lot and “storage bldg”
located to the right of the hotel,  in the original photograph.

In my opinion, the original has not been “Photoshopped”, just incorrectly
captioned.
