It took Dubai more than five years to build the 828-meter Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building (for the moment, anyway).

But Chinese architects and engineers reckon they need a mere 90 days to leave the Emiratis in the dust.

At least, that's what they've claimed.

What could possibly go wrong?

Here's the link to the time lapse video of the 36-story hotel the company built in just 15 days:

"Assembled" might actually be a better term though, as it appears as if they prefab nearly everything and then just put the pieces together on site.

Pretty cool to watch!

Thanks for the info.

QuoteZhang said Sky City is expected to consume a fifth of the energy required by a conventional building due to BSB’s unique construction methods, such as quadruple glazing and 15-centimeter-thick exterior walls for thermal insulation.

The company's construction methods also seem to save money.

Quadruple glazing on a building that big!?!?!   :o

Let say that considering the reputation of "MADE IN CHINA" is not so great. This building wouldn't last long time if you catch my drift...

I see this ending poorly.

Also, if you're going to break the record, do it by more than 10 meters. That's weak, son.

QuoteShanghai experts say there's no cause for concern if, as Japanese experts seemed to be predicting, there is a huge earthquake off the coast of Japan and a subsequent tsunami.

The city's seismological bureau said the area in question suffered from frequent earthquakes and the forecast was just a theory based on Japanese experts' long-term research.

Any effect on Shanghai would be minimal, they said.

It mainly consists of a theater hall, an image-text hall and a seismic instrument hall.

Oh, now I see it, don't worry, the've got this covered!

QuoteShanghai is an important business center, but has lower earthquake risk being in the southern region of the country, said Jayanta Guin, vp of research and modeling for AIR in Boston. Earthquake risk is generally higher in western and northwestern parts of China while the south and east are relatively less exposed to earthquake hazards, except for Beijing, he said.

Yeah, like I'm going up to the top floor... 2,750 feet above the trembling countryside.
