This is a wonderful idea for Avondale/Riverside.  At least once a year St. Johns, King, Park, and/or Riverside need to be closed to vehicular traffic for 1-2+ mile stretch.  The areas in this photo thread have been highlighted on this board before and are very similar to Riverside/Avondale/Springfield, albeit with a little more potential realized and a lot less parking available to begin with.

I think these pictures show community involvement at its full potential (i.e. this board + 100,000 extra people) and I truly think the neighborhoods represented this year are the epitome of maximum southern streetcar neighborhood potential in the 21st century.  Jacksonville can and should take cues and perhaps RAP can work with business owners on St. Johns, Park, King and in Riverside to organize a similar event.

I think it would ignite a passion in more residents in Jacksonville, especially intown, if they were to wake up and see a bunch of people and families walking around and having a good time without cars.  Lord knows everyone in Riverside-Avondale has a bike, and the neighborhood has one of the best grid/street systems in the South.  It's time people become impassioned to see to it that more bike lanes are added, sidewalks repaired and maintained, landscaping improved, and a better co-existence created between residents and business owners and visitors from other parts of the city.

Bullseye, as usual!
Many of us are initiating open events within the realm of public events. Last week (at the CoRK event), we got caught off guard in terms of bike storage.
lack of provision for bikes.

Actually, Jim has been working very hard at identifying ways to increase bike capacity in the neighborhood.  I can personally vouch for that.
