This is Fascinating - Kowloon Walled City

Truly amazing.  I love the plumbing and electrical.  The claustrophobic nature of living in the center, down below, would prepare one for submarine duty.

An organic phenomenon, growing under the pressures of fundamental needs, with very little resources, growing to its great size and population without the guidance of engineering and building codes.  It’s called poverty, living with the basics of life.  And sometimes we, some of us, complain about the building codes, zoning, and restrictions in our cities; some of course, but very few, being valid.

I’m amazed that a fire did not engulf the city.

Population control.  There should be only about 200,000,000 human type animals on the earth, excluding the current population of visiting aliens.  The earth would be happy, and the other animal's too.

Id love to have visited before the demo..it almost looks like  a crazy quilt...almost beautiful.

In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."

Very cool.  I'll be in Hong Kong for a couple of weeks in August, I'll have to check out the park that's on this piece of land now.

I am envious!  I was able to spend 5 days there and could have spent a month!  It is really two or three completely different cities.  And the food... Oh my gawd....
