I am looking for a clothing alterations place in metro Jacksonville. Does anyone have recommendations? I am hoping to find someone that is not expensive and doesn't take weeks to get my clothing back. Thank you!

Basel's Tailor Shop in 5 Points. He's fast and extremely good. I wouldn't call him inexpensive, but I'd definitely say he's fair and the work is well worth the price.

What ChrisUF said....Basel is awesome. I didn't find him that expensive...his quality is impeccable.

Hassan's in San Marco behind the Pizza Hut is fantastic and inexpensive.

I used Basel on a number of occasions. He did some rather dodgy work on a few of my wife's skirts and he (supposedly) ruined a friend's dress (at least she said he did). He also has a bit of a lecherous way about him, when it comes to the lady folk.

As he's not that cheap, I'd consider looking elsewhere.

We use the Tailor Shop on Southside Blvd. (across from Blue Bamboo). Daniel, the owner, does phenomenal work.

We also had some dodgy work done at Basel's on a number of pieces. We thought that he had ruined one of Mrs. JBD's suit jackets and a skirt. (When shortening a sleeve on a jacket that has functioning button cuffs, you remove the sleeve at the shoulder, shorten, and reattach the sleeve. Basel's merely rolled the cuff under, thereby sacrificing one of the buttons and leaving another buttonhole on the very edge of the cuff. Not good work! The skirt had a dramatically uneven hemline, which is just indicative of sloppy work since that's an easy job. Daniel managed to save the jacket cuffs and sleeves despite not have much fabric left with which to work. He also made some other alterations, and now the jacket looks custom made. Since then, we've taken a dozen pieces and we've always had great work.)

I will warn you that the Tailor Shop is not cheap--probably 30 to 50% more than Basel's. But everyone that we've referred to Daniel refuses to go anywhere else despite the price.

If you're just having pant cuffs worked on, then Basel's is probably fine. If you're looking to do major alterations, then spend the extra cash at the Tailor Shop and people will swear that you had your suit/pants/shirt custom made.

I had a suit done at Basel's and couldn't have been happier. He basically rescued it. And he had it done by the next day. I guess it matters what you're looking to have done, and to which kind of garment.
Do you believe that when the blue jay or another bird sings and the body is trembling, that is a signal that people are coming or something important is about to happen?

He did the exact same for one of my old suits - I had no complaints whatsoever. (That's actually why my wife took her stuff to him)

So, come to think of it, the second part of your post seems like it might be right on target  ;)

Basel has employees besides just himself, I wonder if maybe he had a bad one for awhile? Because that's just such a night and day difference from my own experiences there, everything I've ever had done has been impeccable. Maybe it's one of those things where you want to make sure he does it personally, and not one of his helpers. Although I don't know how you'd bring that up exactly, when she's usually sitting 2 feet away and it's a relatively small main room in his shop. But I guess YMMV, I've been perfectly happy with everything he's done for me, he tailored several of my suits, one or two of which I thought the sizing was unsalvageable, and they came out looking custom made.

What you described is why I don't go to Basel when he has one of his helpers sitting there. For what it's worth, I have the same issue with Gus downtown for shoe repair. If he does it...phenomenal. One of his workers, shoddy.

Also, while it doesn't bother me, Basel definitely has an attitude. Kinda reminds me of Jerry at La Cena (Jerry is 1000x worse). If you admit you went to anyone else, or second guess what he's done, he gets kinda moody. Last time I asked for him to cuff my pants a little higher, and he kept saying "no, it looks better this way," to the point I just gave in because I didn't want to spend a 1/2 hour going back and forth.

I still recommend Basel consistently. If you're in San Marco though, go to Hassan's.

Dog Walker

I've taken $3000 Zegnia suits to Basel in perfect confidence.  If he says your pants work better 1/2 inch longer, listen to him.  He examined a lot more suits on a lot more people than any of us have.  In his own quiet way he is a very determined perfectionist with quite an artistic eye.

If your preferences conflict with his artistic eye you are going to get some push back.
When all else fails hug the dog.

I'd feel pretty lecherous in a $3000 Zegna suit...
