Prepared to be impressed!! I have tried this!!! A friend of a friend lived in Australia for 6 months this last holiday season. When he returned home we all met up in Orlando for pizza and beer. He brought out this packet and said whoever tried it got another round. We all took one dip of a knife. Let me say, I have been all over the world and tried some pretty strange, disgusting, and awkwardly wonderful things; but this!!!!! This crap was the worst thing I have ever tasted!! It even trumps fish paste from SEA.

Vegemite is not bad, but it's a poor attempt at Marmite:

Marmite is stronger and has a runnier consistency. I love it and eat it almost every morning on my toast. I think you develop a taste for the stuff, though it helps if you really, really like savory (or "umami") flavors.

Also, you'd be better putting it on toast with butter or cheese (as opposed to eating a spoonful or whatever).

You are probably right, but for a first timer it is def not what you are expecting. I do not think I will be trying anything close to it again. I will remain bland if those are the options. Perhaps, putting it on something would have been smarter but beer was involved and we weren't going to chance ruining our pizza :-) What/who brought Marmite into your daily eating routine?

I laughed when I read this thread.  Quite funny...when viewed through 3rd person eyes, the very fact that we eat stuff called the Baconator or Double Down and go to restaurants called the Heart Attack Cafe or eat Pizzas stuffed with hot dogs or eat at restaurants that comp people's meals if they are OVER 350 lbs is really hilarious.

I worked with a girl who loved it. She bought me a jar and the rest is history. Actually, at first I wasn't sure how much I liked it. But I tried it a few times (very thinly spread) and then found I was starting to think about it all the time. Weird.

It's salty, which may or may not be bad for you. But it's high in one of the vitamin Bs. They say you either love it or hate it, so there's no shame in hating it. As I said, it's quite similar to Vegemite, but I would say it's probably "worse" than Vegemite.

Dog Walker

I think that eating Vegemite is what makes Australians talk funny.
When all else fails hug the dog.
